Sprint Puts Admiral On Board to Oversee Security

Sprint today announced that retired Admiral Mike Mullen will join its board of directors once SoftBank closes its 70% equity acquisition of Sprint. Last month, Sprint agreed to allow the government to have a representative on its board of directors. In addition to sitting on the board, Mullen will serve as the company's Security Director. The government was concerned that giving so much control over Sprint, which provides services for the government, to a foreign firm might pose a risk. Sprint will also allow the government to veto its telecommunications purchases, and it has to divest is Chinese-made networking gear from some of its affiliates by the end of 2014. Sprint expects the deal with Softbank, which is valued at $20.1 billion, will close by the end of July.

So the government doesn't care about Germany's involvement with T-Mobile or Britain's involvement with Verizon, but it chooses to care about Japan's involvement with Sprint? Odd......
This whole thing makes no sense for anyone and we have Sprint to blame for this. The government acts as if China is buying Sprint.
