Wi-Fi Alliance and Wireless Gigabit Alliance are Now One
The Wi-Fi Alliance today announced that its planned merger with the Wireless Gigabit Alliance is now complete. The joined organizations believe WiGig technology is a natural complement to Wi-Fi for short-range mobile broadband applications. They also believe that together the new Wi-Fi Alliance can work more efficiently on future short-range wireless broadband standards and technologies. The first Wi-Fi Alliance interoperability certification program for WiGig products is expected to launch by the end of 2013.

T-Mobile today announced plans to offer three new programs offering 5G service for free to certain groups, or cheaply for everyone else. The company is promising to launch the programs when and if it is allowed to merge with Sprint.

The FCC today approved four new Google Pixel phones, two of which seem US-bound, both of which include short-range 60 GHz radios, commonly used for the technology known as WiGig, Wireless Display, or 802.11ad. WiGig is fast enough to send 4K video or real-time VR wirelessly.

T-Mobile has officially completed its merger with Sprint. For the moment, the merger has little effect on customers, but "Sprint" lives only as a brand of T-Mobile, not a separate company.

A multi-state anti-trust lawsuit to stop the merger of Sprint and T-Mobile has failed. New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a statement saying "There is no doubt that reducing the mobile market from four to three will be bad for consumers, bad for workers, and bad for innovation, which is why the states stepped up and led this lawsuit.
