TransFlash To Become MicroSD

The SD Association has just approved the MicroSD specification for a memory card that is completely compatible with TransFlash. TransFlash slots are already appearing in many new handsets, this move will open up the format to members of the SD card association. SanDisk, the creator of the TransFlash format, announced they would move to the MicroSD format by the third quarter of this year, completing the transition of the format.

Wait...... what?

The article says they are changing the format of flash cards to be completely compatable with transflash, but wouldn't they already be compatable with transflash beings that is the type of cards that are already out?
