Next month Sony Ericsson is set to unveil Walkman branded music phones, promising to revive Sony's portable music heritage. Although many of Sony Ericsson's phones have music players, the new models will feature improved headphones, more memory, more playback features, and the ability to easily load tracks from PCs. Miles Flint, Sony Ericsson CEO, explained users will not need to deal with ATRAC formats or proprietary DRM, saying "Sony's strategy is evolving." Instead Sony Ericsson is expected to opt open formats and DRM standards in the devices. The new music handsets will be available for 3G and 2G networks in the third quarter.

What sets this apart?

I was wondering what sets this apart from any other phone that is capable of playing MP3's and other formats?

Thanks in advance 🙂
I'm guessing Sony is intending on making "mp3 players with phone capabilities" rather than phones with mp3 capabilities. All marketing technique.

Still won't buy it.

It's a sony phone. It could have a nightvision camera complete with a swiss army knife and I still wouldn't buy it. If Sony spent more time on the phone than it's features, maybe, just maybe, I'll think about it.
by working on the phone's features, Sony IS spending time on the phone.. what makes Sony so bad from the rest of cell brands?? nothing.

According to whom?
I was constantly sold out of them until they were discontinued. It was the most requested high-end phone I carried.
The NGage however..... BIG failure.

Now this sounds interesting...

A cell phone that is also a walkman? That's actually a really good idea. It would be ideal for someone jogging at night. that way they's have their music, and should something happen they have the phone to call for help. I'd get one. I listen to my MP3 player at work all day long. This way I don't have soo much crap in my pockets. I can't wait. Walkman is a proven name.
and should something happen they have the phone to call for help.
You know, in case you fall down while running.
