The third edition of Nokia's Series 60 OS will be built on the latest Symbian core, OS 9, and feature multimedia and business enhancements. The OS will ship with a new media player for music and movies, support for OMA DRM standards for downloading music over the air, and USB mass storage for easily transferring files to and from the handsets. The new version also has improved PIM and email support thanks to redesigned applications as well as synchronization and push email support using both OMA sync standards as well as Exchange Server ActiveSync, which Nokia licensed from Microsoft today for both Series 60 and Series 80 OSes. Server ActiveSync allows mobile devices to sync mail, calendar appointments and contacts directly with an Exchange server over wireless data networks.
