Windows Phone 7 Apps Will Work on WP8, But Not Vice Versa

Microsoft explained that due to the significant number of changes taking place in the Windows 8 kernel, applications written natively for Windows Phone 8 will not work on Windows Phone 7.5 (and earlier) devices. However, all Windows Phone 7.5 applications will work on Windows Phone 8 devices. Microsoft explained the difference is because of the hardware code changes in the Windows 8 kernel prevent backward compatibility with older hardware.
