OmniVision today announced a new sensor for high-end smartphones, digital cameras, and digital video cameras. The new OV16820/OV16825 sensors can capture 16-megapixel image bursts at 24 frames per second and 1080p HD video at 60 frames per second (with electronic image stabilization). It supports the newer 4K2K video (Quad Full High Definition) standard at 60 frames per second, as well as defective pixel and noise canceling, RAW scaling, image size, frame rate, exposure, gain, cropping, and orientation controls through the serial camera control bus. The OV16820/OV1682 sensors use a 1.34-micron OmniBSI-2 pixel architecture and come in two different connectivity arrays. Both sensor variants are expected to enter volume production by the fourth quarter of 2012.
