Texas Instruments CEO Richard Templeton told investors today that the company is not going to give up its OMAP mobile processor business. Though TI is in the process of selling its baseband processor business, Templeton said, "I think [OMAP] is a highly intriguing opportunity in terms of where we are and what our opportunity is." However, he also noted that TI does not "have a public or private time frame for what we're going to do with OMAP." TI is selling its baseband business because it doesn't believe it can effectively compete against rivals like Qualcomm. Motorola has used Texas Instruments' OMAP processors in a number of its Android smartphones.

We think we can still make a profit, however how we accomplish this and when is still be evaluated. We are commited to letting you know when we actually have a plan.

Someone, somewhere in a cubicle is playing hangman with paperclips while he shuffles OMAP paperwork on his desk.
