Qualcomm Announces Single-Chip CDMA Solution

Qualcomm today announced the world's first single-chip CDMA 1xRTT solution. The technology will enable smaller, cheaper entry-level handsets. By integrating modem, RF, power management and multimedia into a single chip, the solution eliminates discrete components to lower costs and accelerate time to market. The chip also uses new RF CMOS technology to combine radio receiver and transmitter functionalities into a single design, which were previously separate components in most phones. The chip is expected to sample in the first quarter of calendar 2006.

Finally Phones that unleash all the power of CDMA at GSM prices
This is a major breakthrough for CDMA phone manufacturers, carriers, dealers and consumers.
This new chipset if it does what it is supposed to will lower the prices of CDMA handsets.
Imagine a phone with streaming video at the same price that a consumer would pay for a GSM camera phone.
All of the GSM fans who berate the lack of "cool phones" for CDMA because the cost of manufacturing CDMA phones makes full featured phones more expensive than the average consumer is willing to pay will not have anything to say.
DSL speed PDA phones at a fraction of the current cost of 1X PDA phones and later PDA phones with data speeds faster than cable for the same price.
It's around the corner for us CDMA folks.
