3G Americas, LLC, a new wireless trade organization focusing on the Americas, was established today. 3G Americas represents five principle wireless technologies of the Americas: GSM, TDMA, GPRS, EDGE, and UMTS. The new organization replaces the UWCC, a TDMA-focused group that announced its dissolution late last year. The founding members of 3G Americas include AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Compaq, Ericsson, Lucent Technologies, Motorola, Nokia, Nortel Networks, Openwave Systems, Rogers AT&T Wireless (Canada), Siemens, and Telecom Personal (Argentina). Bill Clift, CTO for Cingular Wireless, will serve as its first chairman.
