Verizon Wireless yesterday announced it has closed its deal to acquire a Dobson Communications' wireless system serving southern Arizona. The business today operates under the Cellular One brand, which will be converted to the Verizon Wireless brand. The company will convert the operations that use TDMA to Verizon's preferred CDMA network platform. Verizon Wireless and Dobson first announced they were in negotiations on Sept. 17, 2001. Subsequently, the companies announced on Nov. 1, 2001 a deal for operations in parts of California, Georgia, Ohio and Tennessee. The Arizona deal completes this set of acquisitions.
