Vitex Systems yesterday announced it will partner with Samsung SDI on new OLED display technology for the mobile device market. Samsung will fund design and engineering efforts for the company's proprietary Barix thin-film coating solution. Barix eliminates the need for a second sheet of glass, reducing the thickness and weight of an OLED display by half. Samsung's goal is to bring to market OLED-based displays based on the technology by late 2004.
