Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network (GHC 911) in Houston announced yesterday that all six wireless companies within its territory have implemented location technology as mandated by the FCC for wireless 911 callers. GHC 911 is the first 911 entity in a major metropolitan area in the United States with all wireless carriers providing the phone number and location information of wireless 911 callers.

The Supreme Court today said it will hear a case regarding whether or not law enforcement can access certain types of cell location data without a warrant. As it stands today, the government does not need to get a warrant when seeking location and other information held by phone companies.
