Sprint PCS Launches 3G

Sprint PCS today introduced PCS VisionSM, a next generation wireless service that encompasses multiple new services and devices, as well as data speeds around 50 - 70 kbps. Over the coming weeks, Sprint will be launching five new color-screen phones, two PDA/phone combo devices, two high-speed PC cards for laptops, and a high-speed CompactFlash card for smaller devices. New services include Pictures, which lets users take and send pictures wirelessly from a compatible phone. Additional new services include enhanced messaging and downloadable polyphonic ringtones, animated screen savers, and J2ME games. Sprint also announced the availability of full-color, graphic versions of several major wireless web sites. Also available will be PCS Business ConnectionSM, which lets business users access MS Outlook or Lotus Notes e-mail on a PCS Vision phone. Sprint also announced Digital Imaging for Business, available in September, which will allow enterprise customers to take and transmit high-quality images wirelessly using a Ricoh digital camera. New plans introduced offer per-megabyte pricing for data usage. Sprint also announced that it has partnered with Accenture, HP, IBM, Ingram Micro and PwC Consulting to provide custom-tailored solutions for enterprise customers of all sizes.
