I have had one for 2 days so take this with a grain of salt.
The ringer is pretty quiet, but there is a "classic" tone that you can select which is lound enough. The songs would be easily missed in a loud area like a shop floor or bar.

OK, I went this time to the Chicago store in the Gold Coast area, same answer (and an even more rude salesman).
I called Customer Support, who said I should try the telesales group who might make an exception. I had already tried that a couple days earlier.
I am now on my 2nd day of trying a T-Mobile 7100t blackberry. So far I love it, but the coverage is much poorer than Verizon.
But dealing with them so far ...

I just bought one 2 days ago so can only answer the HS810 question - yes. It works. Seems to work well, though I have made only a few test calls.
It is a bit confusing though, it appears if you tap it when no call is incoming, it dials the last call. But it answers fine with a tap on the ear. Be sure to make it "trusted" so you do not have to allow ...

I'm a long time Verizon customer with a voice plan, currently on a contract running thru November.
I decided I wanted this Blackberry with a data plan. No problem, they will sell me one for the discounted, one-year (or two) price since I'm buying a data plan.
I said "ok, and also move my voice plan onto the phone ALSO".
They said "no problem, but we have to charge you retail for the phone in that case since you are cancelling ...

Wow. I just tried that. It's really, really stupid.
With the headset on, and driving mode off, I can't seem to answer the phone without opening it.
With the headset on and driving mode on, the speaker is the one that announces the call. Though it shifts to the headset if you do tell it to answer. And as best I can tell it does "listen" thru the headset and not the built in speaker.

Clock while talking, cables, stuff
Had the 6100 for 3 days, like it, so far good results. Not as annoyed as others by the 'volume bug'.
Am annoyed by this -- I use my cell phone as a watch. When talking both sides of the phone show a timer not a clock. Any way to change and have a clock show while talking?
Can't find a Mobile Office anywhere, had one for VX10, cable won't fit. Called verizon twice - once they said ...
