Owned one for about a week from the day it came out, then returned it. All in all, I'd say my experience with the device here in central Florida was exactly the same.
Great hardware for a no contract phone. Great deal on rate plans. Horrible reception, with at best 2 bars and usually no signal at all, making unlimited anything worthless when you can't connect in 90% of locations you'd use it. Mostly I blame Virgin/Sprint for that though.

Seemed like a smart move to me.
VM uses the Sprint network, so data speeds are OK. Not amazing, not dial-up, but OK, and better than AT&T was where I live.
When I was with AT&T I was paying $65+/mo for 350 min, no text plan, and 2GB of data (plus $10/GB after that, which I never got close to).
With VM I pay $25/mo for 300 min, unlimited text, and unlimited data that will be slowed down after 2.5GB (but no ...

Yup. It's listed on the premier site, and at a good price (well, for Premier and a 2 year contract). However, nowhere in the details does it mention the FM Radio, so it seem that Cingular has chosen the "gimped" version of this phone. :cry:

An excellent explanation there WinHack, and I agree with joeblowstein about the data plans.
Be they mMode or Mobile Internet, AT&T still looks to be forcing users to pay for something that they may not want.
Then again, it's a brand new phone, and will probably be very popular among tech-savvy folks. So if they can sell them all right away and get an extra $8 or more per month from those who want the phone as soon as it's available, ...
