Here is what worked for me:
1. Create you MP3 Ringtone (keep it under 30 seconds and less than 300KB)
2. Change the file from a .mp3 file to a .midi file (use the Windows "rename" function.
3. Send an e-mail number to (your mobile number)@vzwpix.com. I sent mine using Microsoft Outlook.
4. You should receive a message on your phone with a .midi file attached. Use the right soft key to access "Options". Select "Save as ringtone".

Per my previous post, I had the same problem - I found a solution on another board - it worked for me - hope it does for you.... I e-mailed the new "midi" file(the same content as the MP3 file I had previously sent) to the U540, and was able to save it as a ringtone.

I had exactly the same experience tonight - no option to save what was an attached MP3 file as a ringtone, ended up saving it as a "sound" - any other ideas?
