Missed the mark

Sep 17, 2002 by Bill Herder

I've had the phone now for 5 days. The ergonomics are OK, and I love the display. Most of the features are relatively easy to use once you get the hand of their interface. Now for the bad stuff.
Battery life is terrible. Can't make it 12 hours with just a few calls - in a digital home metropolitan area. Reception is absolutely awful - the worst I've seen in years. Bluntly unacceptable. My old Startac, my wife's N300, other people with V60s and LT510's all have far superior performance. Ringers are the worst I've ever heard - seems as though it was designed for kids. No "normal" business acceptable ringers. There is NO software available for this phone to manage phonebook, etc via PC. I contacted Samsung by voice and email. In both instances they say that none is available, and they have no projected date for availability - if any. This phone is going back - quick. Based on the poor performance and poor customer support I got, plus the fact that though they advertised PC software for the phone in their pre-release pack but now claim that such information is not "meant for public consumption" I will never consider another Samsung product. it's too bad - there are a lot of nice features to the phone. Overall, however, it's a pretty bad product.

One of the Best phones out there. A++++++++

THis is the best phone I have ever baught from Verizon wireless. This phone and Verizon is unstopable. With great service and Phone in your hands It cannot get better than this. Verizon and Samsung A310 rule.

Nice features but it has some serious drawbacks. It gets hot while charging and also while talking, the call quality is mediocre, lots of static and clipping, and the battery life is poor. Stay away from this phone until Samsung offers a flash or an updated model.

Samsung A 310

Apr 27, 2003 by Leonard Harrison

I purchased the phone a week ago. Great reception, menu easy to use. I charged the battery for 24hrs., like Samsung's website said, battery did not last 10 hours with 80 minutes of talk time on it. Verizon said battery is probably defective. I just purchased an extended battery yesterday as I always do.

My only gripe is that you do not have a shortcut to lock your phone. 6 step process is really too long. However, that is really the only negative about this phone. I do wish it had download capabilities, but I knew it did not before I bought it. Vibrate mode works pretty well.

Bought the leather case for it. The case will do a 360* spin on the clip which I do not like as the possibility of flip getting broken is very high, it has almost happened already. But I have to have the case as a protective scratch prevention measure.

Samsung makes a very good product. Have had 2 other phones from them and they work like they are supposed to.

Phone was $99 with a $50 mail-in rebate. Not bad for a phone of this quality. Just wish Verizon was better at letting customers buy new units as they wish without having to get through the 2 yr agreement or having to pay the full price of the unit.. Had to go around the system to get the phone, but as long as I got what I wanted, it's all good!

Also want to thank Phone Scoop for this website. I check it constantly for product info and the REVIEWS! Great site and service!!!

Response for ringers and my own review

Oct 19, 2002 by Tim Hale

First off, I am puzzled about all of the reviews complaining about the lack of professional ringers. Have none of you heard of VIBRATE? If it is that big of a deal, or is it the simple fact that you all want the attention when someone calls you? That is why my significant other and I are unable to have a nice dinner in peace. Also, that is a lot of what is wrong with society. Everyone is soooo concerned with the image that they project to others, that all personality has been lost. Nobody has any concern with being themselves anymore.

For my review, I have only one complaint. I have had the phone for four days now. The only disappointment with it being that you can not change the back light color on the inside of the phone. Otherwise, the rest has been wonderful so far. I have yet to experience the battery issue that so many others have. I have gotten at least 24 hours on every charge. I have, since the beginning of cell phones however had the habit of unplugging the phone once it shows a charge, and then reconnecting until it shows full charge a second charge. This has always seemed to help a lot. The menu is simple. The features are above and beyond what an individual could need on a phone. And on top of it all, it is a flashy, attractive, and fun little phone.

Not so durable but still a good phone

One of my friends owned this phone, the Samsung A310 and she was complaining that it didn't\ doesn't stand up her kids.

They toss it because they are little, that's why she has that old of a phone because the kids will break her newer model ones

It broke it's hinge from one of the drops yet it stilllooks pretty good condition wise even though it's gotten wet and had a fair share of drops.

Withstood a lot of abuse!

Not the fanciest phone you'll ever see, but it lasted quite a while and put up with a lot of punishment. Phone's just aren't made to the same reliablity standards that they used to be.

Best Phone I Ever Bought

Jul 22, 2007 by poetlady73

This was the best phone I ever had. I dropped it sooo many times and it still worked. I liked that it didnt have a camera and I disabled the internet that it had. I loved the keypad, very durable. It was always reliable and I think it was the best phone Samsung ever made. The original battery lost a lot of life quickly but the extended battery was pretty good. It came with a few games and the menu's were very user friendly. After 2-1/2 years I did have a major issue with the phone all of a sudden going on Analog and Roaming in an area where that had never happened before...It may have been the circuit board inside the phone or it may have been my prepaid service...not sure. I never went to get it checked out.

Amazing phone!!!! All negative = Veriz. Network!

Nov 15, 2006 by mike06nyc

I really miss the phone. I used it in early 2003 with Verizon. At that time Verizon's CDMA Network (at least in New York) Sucked big time ( constantly dropped calls, sound degrading at night time and extremely fast power draining of battery).

Today, I know for sure-Verizon has fixed those issues. So it would amazing to have this excellent and simple phone back on normal Verizon's network!!!!

Phone's
PROS:
-Excellent voice clarity (no hissing, very loud/clear, smooth, bassy)
-Excellent polyphonic ringtones
-Cooling and excellent screan resolution without iritating color screan!!!!!
-Excellent menu structure

VERIZON:
Why can't we have such a simple phone
today? Why all we see from you today is ugly small color irritating toy phones?

Great little phone with updated software

Mar 31, 2006 by xrilander

Just purchased this phone, was NOS. I read the reviews, and experienced some of the problems right away. The poor signal strength, and crappy ringtones were solved by having the latest software installed for free at a Verizon Wireless store. The original software version is V17, have the latest V23 installed. Don`t forget to dial *228 option 2 afterwards to get the latest roaming capabilities. As for the right hinge breaking, don`t force the top half backwards while talking!
