Great multitasker

Sep 28, 2007 by mitonus

What a great little device this new Chocolate! It does everything MP3 player, Camera, Camcorder and of yeah ... phone as well in one very lightweight super design device. One advice: Make sure you set up all the sensitivities to your preference and you will not have to complain about anything.

Pretty solid phone. Some quirks.

I'm pretty much happy with the phone.
Only thing that's wrong with it for me is the slider feels a LITTLE loose. Also, sometimes it will randomly reboot/restart, and it will restart whenever I use the side volume adjustment keys. I try to test the sound and it resets. But its not a big deal to me. It gets me through the day.

New and improved

I have owned this phone for about a month now and I think it's a good upgrade from the 8500. Here are the pros and cons after my first 30 days.

Pros -
RF is great (Upstate NY)
Speaker phone is solid
Music player is good
Sleek (how is a phone sexy???)
Slide mechanism is great so far
Locking the phone can be set on auto.
FYI - Speakerphone CAN be activated before calling (hold the spk key for a few seconds)

Cons -
Camera is not that great (does not zoom in much, no flash, night mode is POINTLESS.)

UI is a little slower than I'm used to.

Touch keys are not that much of a benefit, even on super sensitive I have to "press" it again and again

The scroll wheel should be notched so it wouldn't be so easy to move inadvertantly.

A little too glossy so its easy to drop and open sometimes.

Keypad is on the small side.

In conclusion I think this is a decent upgrade from the original. I feel this is the best one VZW has to offer.

Nice phone so far

I never had the first Chocolate so this one is something different for me. The only problem I have but it's starting to get better is the dial, it seems so touchy, as I select a menu and then the OK button sometimes the menu selection is selected to the next menu, I think that has to do with me placing my fingers on it the right way.

Pros:
Sounds great
Camera is surprisingly good
call quality is good
when slide is open it's sturdy

Cons:
Dial takes a little time to get used to, if you never had a phone that had one.

Otherwise this phone seems good so far. I'm not a daily phone user so it doesn't get used everyday.

this is a very nice phone i work for ups and i am able to purchase phones with a very large discount i have had a sleuth of lg phones including the 8500 i am pleased to say this is a much better phone but i still prefer my 8300 because it is a flip phone and in working in a warehouse it is nice to have a sturdy phone but anyone looking to get a new phone should atleast try this phone out

Was never a fan of the old chocalate, but this new 1 is just great. I had the vx9400 for 2 weeks and besides th tv service which is not even that great at the moment it just doesn't comapare, and i returned it for this phone. Its stylish sleek and comfortable The only downfall i can say is the keyboard is a little crammed if your a big fan of texting. but not much different from any other small phone these days. At the moment this is phone to go with if your looking for a new one. All the verizon employees are raving about this phone.

awesome :)

The chocolate was my favourite phone yet. :)
It was very responsive, and everything works nicely. (For me, anyway.)

pros;
- Good sound.
- Spin wheel is nice, I never had problems with bumping into the touch screen part.
- keys are a nice size
- Texting style is very easy to learn, t9 works wonders.
- Touch pad works perfectly, once you get used to the no-vibration mode it makes it more enjoyable. (It's annoying when deleting characters in a text, and having it vibrate every single letter/number.)
- Sleek design, and nice display choices.
- Slider is nice, never had problems with it.

cons;
- Camera quality isn't that great, color-wise. Even after adjusting options.
- Video can be adjusted from 30 seconds, to one hour, which is nice, although the quality isn't that great.
- Smudgy screen.
- Poor, poor battery life. Even after charging all night, it only lasts from 12 pm to 10 pm before it starts showing one bar/blinking, although sometimes I'm lucky and it lasts for a while.

:) overall, very great phone regardless the harsh reviews.

Very Nice

Both of my kids have had this phone for 3 weeks. The updates to this phone make it look very sharp.

You are getting a phone and an ipod in one. You can't go wrong.

The reception is great. No dropped calls.

They are getting 2 days out of the battery and that is using it as the phone and ipod plus my daughter sends TONS of messages.

The only thing we have seen with this handset is the LCD scratches VERY easy. My daughters has marks on it from her earrings and my sons from who knows what and they have been very careful with them.

mediocre phone and player

I was excited about this phone but quickly became disenchanted. There were time where it behaved tauntingly how I wanted it to, then something would go wrong. A key problem is it's inability to remember it's position in the track when turned off, a problem when listening to hour-long podcasts. Also, call quality was mediocre at best. My old VX6100 was a much better phone.

PROS
-Looks good
-Size
-Click wheel
-Interface

CONS
-button size too small
-randomly turns off or reboots
-too easy to accidentally exit player, losing position in track
-loses position in track when shut off
-call quality
-battery life

I was within my 30 days, so I swapped if for a VX8700, which I'm just going to use as a phone, and keep my old mp3 player.
