unknown card slot and WiFI question

i'm using the sprint version if this makes a difference

here's what's bugging me and hopefully someone can help. turn your 6600/6601 around the back and take off the battery. see that little card type indentation in the lower-left-ish? what's that for? it isn't the size of an SD, maybe a mini-SD, don't know. but there's no contact points (except so that doesn't make sense. can't find anything about it on the manual and hoping that someone has figured out what it's for.
i'm secretly hoping that somehow it can be used to add WiFi to the phone...which is the only thing missing from this phone.

thx to whoever can help out with this.

forgot to ask if anyone knew when they'd make a 1GB WiFi/storage combo-card for the SD slot...I know the combo-card exists but the ones i've found are small...I have about 800 MB used up already on my card so I'll need at least a gig...

Regarding the "combo" cards, i.e. San Disk's 256MB (storage) + Wifi card- IT WILL NOT WORK ON THE PPC-660* & San Disk has stopped production on those as well.
So if you see one, such as on EBay, I would suggest, simply leave it alone.
As far as anyone else coming out with any, I have emailed a couple different companies who already have either a WiFi card out or a storage card out. All have replied with a basic "No" as far as supporting the PPC-660*s. Their reply has been, "Since the newer devices coming out are being equipped w/ WiFi already, there isn't much of a market for "combo" cards towards the existing units, since for the most part, they are in the "I want to be one of the 1st to have it market".
Sure would have been nice ...

To me it looks as though its a dummy spot for a SIM card if the phone was to be used on a GSM network.
