Bottom Line - i730 or xv6700?

I think both are decent but I can't decide. Does anyone have experience with both or has anyone switched to the xv-6700? Any info would be appriciated!

Crippled Wi-Fi, Verizon Style

It appears that VZW has also crippled wifi on my phone (Samsung SCH-i730) on the protocol level. They seem to of done this so that you can not connect to the majority of wifi networks, coffee houses, etc. They have done the same thing that they did when they released Bluetooth on the v710... mention that nothing is crippled and act as if everything is implemented into it. So far they the only thing that comes close to them admitting that is the following quote...

"Why doesn't the i730 connect to my wireless access point (AP) /router?
The i730 supports wireless access points that transmit a 128bit preamble not 130bit preamble. Some wireless access points send a 130bit (i.e. Cisco, Linksys, etc). To address this issue you can upgrade the f...

Pharos iGPS-360, iGPS-BT, Ostia, and my Samsung i730

Wow, Pharos and Ostia have the worst documentation ever!!

However, Now that I have finally successfully installed the trio, I would recommend Pharos/Ostia as a GPS solution for this phone. The real-time traffic info for me (in Houston and DFW TX) is necessary for daily driving. In Houston, Ostia shows me the actual current speeds of segments of highway that are necessary to drive on just to get to the grocery store.

In case anyone else wants to install this on their i730, here is how to do it. (I'm posting this on phonescoop because it's a good site for google to share this install with anyone).
In reality, getting the Samsung i730 to work with the iGPS-360 is simple if you know the missing element Pharos so kindly leaves out, so he...

notification bubble

I have an i730 and it works great with the exception of the notification bubbles that pop up when connecting, disconnecting, wireless syncing, or anything else that cause you to lose and re-input any data that you were working with at the time of the notification.

Is there anyway to get rid of this?! Yikes.

You could be writing in transcriber, or using the keyboard and type an entire paragraph before you realize that none of it has been recorded because of a notification bubble!

If anyone knows how to get rid of this please post here.

DUN hack

Will/can Verizon disable the hack that allows us to use the phone as a modem via USB?

I thought since Verizon does not official support using this phone as a modem for your computer, they could in the future block this "feature".

Sprint officially provides a service to use thier PDA (PC-6700) as a modem and they charge for it. I don't want to buy the Samsung phone only to have Verizon disable this feature.

Thanks,

SCH-i730 - Modem for laptop?

Can the i730 be attached either via USB or Bluetooth to a laptop and have the laptop use the phone as a modem? My old Kyocera 7135 was able to do this.

SCH-i730 expansion slot

Has anyone tested the SCH-i730 expansion slot for SPI mode? I know it does default SD/MMC mode, but need to know if it will communicate with an expansion card in the SD-SPI mode.

Person on the other side cannot hear me loud

Hello guys,

I'm new to the forum as you can see. To make the long story short I'm looking for help. My 14 days satisfaction quarantee period with Verizon is almost over( 2 days more left), so time is of the essence. I double and triple checked it and it looks like the people on the other side can't hear me loud. I tested it more the couple of times with friends and members of the family, we switched the phones and in fact I couln't hear them loud. ( in perfect conditions it would be acceptable but not in moving cars or other noisy environment)
I read plethora of reviews and this issue is rather confirmed.
So my question and request is could you point me to the threads in this forum that depict the situation mentioned above. I would lov...

VZW Samsung i730 International Edition???

Spoke with my VZW data rep yesterday and he mentioned that a new release of the phone is forthcoming and that it is GSM capable!

Wow! An International GSM, CDMA, WM5, Broadband, WiFi, BT device (perhaps with camera too?) !!!

Anyone have clues on features for this version?
Also, the Korean i730 version (AnyCall) has hard dial keys (12) rather than mini (IMHO useless) keyboard. I wonder if that will be the design choice for the slide-out tray on the Intl. i730? I guess my manly, fat fingers are just too big for the keys on my i730 keyboard and so I never use it. I am amazed how Blackberry owners do it with their similar keyboards.

Overall, I am happy with my i730 except for the few bugs that have been mentioned here.

laptop connection!

ok i tried to read though all this but i couldn't find clear answer. I have a i730 and pay 44.95 a month for broadband on the pda. Does anyone know if i can hook this up to my laptop and get on the web, if i can only connect at 1x that is fine. I know your not supposed to do this technically(depending on who you ask) but i just want to know how to do it. I have the cable and i also have bt connection on laptop, so either way will work

Samsung i730 to be replaced by Motorola Q ???

I couldn't find anything about the Motorola Q on phonescoop, so I figured I'd go out to the masses. The Q is one sweet device. Get more details at ...

http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details/0,, ... »

I'm hoping Verizon will carry this phone sometime next year. Plus, since it's not a silly "slide open" phone, there might actually be some decent cases for it.

BTW ... I'm currently an AudioVox 6600 user ... that thing bugs me to no end. I think the device itself is flakey, then add MS software on top of that ... no bueno!!

Why has information regarding the camera version stopped completely?

I come to this forum everyday hopping to find out about the release date or any other information about the Samsung i730 with the digital camera. Unfortunately I am faceed with the same o uninteresting threads people recently post to this forum. Please insiders start digging again like everyone did prior to the release date to the version without the camera.
