Some Questions

Hi, I have some questions about SPH-i550
I Wanted to know if it's possible to do this:
1) Can I upgrade my software to PalmOS 5.4?
2) My model doesn't have Video Capture and Voice Dialing, and I wanted to install it. How can I do it?
3) Can I put mp3 like ringtones, or where I can download ringtones. And how Can I add them.
4) How can I put more animations for the screensaver?

Thanks in Advance.

i500 coming to Mexico...

If you go to www.samsungusa.com and search for i550, you will now find the manual downloadable in Spanish (it says "Mexico" by it). This item has a post date of 6/1/2005. For a 'dead phone' it still seems pretty active.

wtf? This phone has it all! Don't really understand the logic behind Sprint not carrying this phone. I'm starting to dislike Sprint even more. Who ever picks up this model will made a boat load.

thoughts/comments?

Petition requesting the I-550 release

There has been a petition posted that requests Sprint to release the I-550 or something similar. The petition is copied below. If you agree, go to the site: http://www.petitiononline.com/pphi550/
and sign it. There are already over 200 signatures as of 3/31/05.

To: Sprint PCS

We, the undersigned, would like to request that Sprint PCS work with Samsung to make possible the release of the much anticipated SPH-i550 Palm multimedia clamshell phone. It is a ground-breaking design and would greatly enhance Sprint’s attractiveness to subscribers. Sprint has always been on the leading edge in offering data-enabled phones using the Palm operating system and we would like to see them continue that position. In particular, we would like S...

It's DOA

According to a story at sprintpcsinfo.com, the i550 has been cancelled. Sprint is going with the Treo 650 for palm, and is replacing i500's with i600's in store inventory

i500 vs. Treo 650 vs. i550

Last night I compared the i500 to the new Treo 650. I am hooked on the clamshell design (I HATED the way the 650 felt up to my ear), but could not justify it once I saw how awesome the 650's new Palm OS and graphics were. A rep just told me about the i550 yesterday. It would be the ultimate combo of both worlds if it will ever come out! I am willing to try waiting for a few more months... Are there any major features the Treo 650 has that the i550 doesn't?

Anyone notice software for the i550 is available for download?

Check this out:

File date is mid-December. Don't know if this means anything but seems promising.

Maybe this will

Put some fire in Samsung's butt for the release of the i550. 😡 Nothing like losing money to put some fire in somebody's butt.

Trip to the Samsung Experience

2 weeks ago I visited the Samsung experience at Columbus Circle in NYC. A working (minus internet setup) i550 was on display. The rep told me to expect the phone by February, and when it does come out, it may be EV-DO compatible. My birthday is in February, so I'll be patient.

well, I pre-ordered the 650

Well I combed the net looking for ANY signs that the i550 would be available soon and couldn't find anything positive. While this is the unit I'd prefer, I'n not waiting anymore. So I hit the PalmOne site today and preordered the TREO 650. I guess someday Samsung will realize that they are losing customers each day the i550 isn't available.

i550 failed

I just spoke to sprint business solutions VP. There is going to be a delay on this phone. It failed a CDMA certification, and until samsung can fix the problem you will not see this phone for a while.

TIred of waiting...looks like the 650

I'll be honest, I would love to own the new i550. But I don't want to continue waiting. It might be different if Samsung & Sprint posted an official release date. (Oh yea, and I thought I could believe them.) So with the announcement that the TREO650 will be available on Nov. 14, it looks like the choice is made for me. So unless a FIRM date gets announced in the next two weeks, I'll be using a TREO by the end of the month.

I would have liked to hold out for the i550, but I have no idea of how long I'd be waiting. I could have used one of these devises several months ago, and have been waiting patiently. Oh well, time to jump off the Samsung bandwagon. Anyone else with me?

Verizon

The best system, the worst phones. Any carrier that jumps on this phone as a sure winner. Why do these companies take so very long to relase a phone when it has been announced. The Kyocera 7135 was almost a year old before it was sold. Now many of us are waiting for the next generation to upgrade. An easy sale for a company like Verizon. Why do they stall so long?????
