Cell-phone assist for seniors

This is a good idea, at least in principle, but it's a matter of detail & execution as to whether it will be actually useful to seniors.

Hopefully Sprint also incorporated things like:

(1) Large font, vastly simplified interface design (i.e. the number, size & legibility of icons & text on each screen),

(2) Rubbery, grippy cases (the iPhone could never be a serious phone for seniors, because of the ridiculously stupid slick-backed case Jobs insisted on).

(3) A convenient way to carry their phones on a lanyard the seniors can hang around their necks if they wish (phone is less likely to get lost/misplaced, it's closer to their ears so they will actually hear the phone ring/beep, they can get to it quickly so they can answer it bef...

iD pack for Cool Seniors

My grandfather couldn't even begin to know what a smartphone is, let alone use one. Give him a flip phone, however, even a slide-out with a keyboard, and hes good to go. Does sprint really think that seniors want to use any of those Smartphones they named support this ?

Who Let This Happen?

As being an old phone dog myself and being in the wireless industry for a better portion of my adult life... I remember when 99.9% of cell phones were "candy bar" style and Motorola attempted to claim that the flip form and factor was their patent ... The absurdity of this claim was laughed out of litigation and was never taken seriously by the courts.... And now this happens?

Why Apple winning is good news for Android

1) Handset makers who are actually innovating get more attention. Aside from Samsung, every other handset manufacturer is suffering, yet they're the ones spending a lot of money on R&D to distinguish themselves.

2) Samsung will have to improve the quality of their devices, as it's no longer acceptable to make creaky cheap plastic knockoffs of the iPhone, slap on a iOS-mixed-with-typical-Samsung-bad-taste skin, and call it 'obvious.'

2) Android, which has already been veering away from iOS for a couple years now in terms of UI conventions, now has to remain fully committed to its own course (which I think it will be much stronger for.) Think about how much better 'Holo' apps looks now than the cruddy ones we saw back 2 years ago.

Samsung Epic 4G Battery Issue?

I have a friend who has a Samsung Epic 4G and he is having issues with the phone malfunctioning. He thinks the reason the phone is misbehaving is because of the battery. Some of the things the phone does are the following:

- He will pick the phone up to use it or answer a call and the phone answers by itself

- The phone shuts itself off

- The camera does not work

- The capacitive buttons do not always respond

- The battery meter, which is supposed to go from red (low battery) to blue (fully charged), it will go to blue and then switch to red and stay that way.

Can the battery be purchased from the Sprint store online?

Epic Vs EVO

Just got the EVO now as I read the reviews here Epic seems more and more tempting. Has anyone had the evo and returned it for Epic.

Want to know what things you like about Epic that Evo doesn't has.

EPIC is epic... But the Battery is an EPIC FAIL

I have to say that it sucks to walk into my local SPRINT store, where I know them as I've been doing business with them for 10 years or so, and, when I mentioned that I had a battery that was dying fast, have them ask me if I had my BT shut off.... Really? I have to disable a critical function of the phone in order to be able to use it? That makes NO SENSE!

Also. And I find this most laughable... everyone is saying to make sure that the 4G is off... So... Is it rude for me to notice the elephant in the room called SPRINT's advertising of 4G as the Second Coming, but also point out that we're being told not to use 4G?

The solutions out on all of the web sites is to add software that disables data communications when the phone screen ...

Does the Epic 4g play all/most/some/no Flash games w/Froyo (Android 2.2)?

I'm choosing beween an Epic 4G, EVO 4G, iPhone 4, and Samsung Focus as my next device.

Being able to use the Epic 4G's keyboard to play Flash games would be an important factor if it has that capability.

Has anyone here taken the plunge and updated to the unofficial (right?) release of Android 2.2?

What case do you own for the Epic?

I'm guessing the majority of you Epic owners have phone cases, including myself. My Epic arrived today along with the Seidio Innocase I ordered. IMO the only case from a reputable company out with a case for the Epic now. It does not feel as snug as the Innocase for my Treo Pro but it will have to do until someone else develops a case.

Share the cases you guys have as I'm curious to know as there are not many to begin with.

LED flashng and notification tones

I have the "flash continuously" box checked off but the red LED doesn't seem to flash continuously for unread messages once he screen goes to sleep. If I press the pwr button to wake up the device the the LED starts flashing again but that defeats the purpose.

Also, any way to get different notification tones for different events lie SMS vs Email vs Calendar?

Thanks
