Is the handset unlocked? The term unlocked is used to explain service restrictions that prevent other service providers from using this handset. This helps to subsidize cost and many conspiracy theorists believe there is more to it. If it is unlocked it should work. If not it will say enter subsidy code once you turn on the handset with the cingular SIM in it. If it is not unlocked you can get the unlock code within 48 hours just by having a friend or family member with a T-Mobile (the provider that the handset was designed for) account call in to customer care and request the unlock code. here's your phone geek....when you get the phone unlocked, follow the two links to cingular's website to set up your multimedia messaging and media net services..if t-mobile doesnt help you out try calling a few of your local cingular dealers(independant) and find someone that unlocks phones...they might charge you a little something.....

to unlock a motorola it requires a software update so its not a code that you can just punch in...you will need to find someone to do it for you.

When you said an software update is required is this with certain models? I have had several unlocked Motorolas including the RAZR and they have worked fine by simply entering the subsidy and changing data configurations. Thanks for the link!
