V710 CARRIERS

I am currently with Verizon, and am very unhappy that they have disabled some of the features from my Motorola V710 phone that I have had for over 5 months. I was told that they were working on software to enable some of the features, but so far no luck.

I am wondering if there is a carrier that I can use my V710 phone with all of it's features intact? Is this possible?

Since your V710 was bought from VZW it's not possible to use any of the blocked BT features with either VZW OR any other carrier. There's not any system attached to the network transmitting a signal that says "don't let him use this service" it's actually a software block IN the phone. The only thing that would fix this to my knowledge is a firmware upgrade that allows the BT to be properly utilized. I do not know whether VZW offers such an upgrade.

Presumably if you went to another CDMA carrier that supports the v710 you'd be required to flash your phone with thier firmware. ALLTEL for example carries the v710 and to the best of my knowledge doesn't limit the use of BT in it. When you brought in your VZW v710 they'd flash it with...

Thanks for the reply, if Verizon doesn't do right by it's customers, I for one will be changing carriers as soon as I find one that can utilize my V710 without disabling any of its functionality.

I bought a new 710 from VW on 05-02-05 and I am very pleased with it. I can use BT to go thru my palm and the head set works great. I have 19 hours on the phone and not one dropped call. What features are you revering to when you say that you can't use the BT features?

I was referring to my ability to access my phones phonebook from my Visteion CK3100 CAR KIT. I also cannot download pictures from the phone to my computer. Not having the phone book accessable prevents me from making voice calls from the car kit. Thus I have to handle the phone to make a call. This is NOT what I thought I was buying when I bought the phone and the car kit.

I may just do that, I now have to wait until my current contract expires. I also need to find out if Cingular can upgrade the software in my Motorola V710 to work with their system.

Cingular doesn't support the v710 for one REALLY BIG reason. Our network is GSM while the v710 uses CDMA. (don't know these terms? find them in the Glossary here on PS)

Therefore coming to Cingular would require you to purchase a new phone. However we've got several different moto's with BT and similar features to the v710.

This puts a different light on the subject. I paid a bundle for this phone, plus my wife's phone is CDMA. I guess I will have to keep looking.

That's why I originally suggested ALLTEL. They're not only a CDMA carrier, but they offer the V710 in thier lineup. I've seen an ALLTEL phone be flashed with VZW firmware and work just fine on the VZW network and I'm sure that it works both ways. Regardless flashing is the only way that I know of to remove software blocks like that.

You may also want to visit www.motox.net This is a site for phone modders and there may be something there about the v710. I've only been there a few times and have so far only seen things dealing with GSM phones, but that doesn't mean it's not there.

WARNING: Phone modding often voids the manufacturer's warranty and can be seriously detrimental to the phone itself if done improperly, tread with cautio...
