Does Cell phone spying work?

Hi all,
I see these websites ADs that you could listen in someone elses call, read text check pnone contact list ect without installing anything on the target phone. I was wondering if it is possible.

My question is; Is it possible? If you answer yes please explain. Remember you do not have access to the target phone. What distance does the target phone has to be for this to happen?

Can I hire may be an internet company to do this for a monthly fee? So all I recieve is the data.

Phone Modes and What it means.

I'm hoping to get a good technical person that can render authoritative information. Smile
My basic question is this: Does the greater number of modes (combinations of frequencies and technologies) give one phone over another a better chance of getting a signal? As an example: if I use the Motorola Razr M, which has the following modes:
LTE 750
WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100
CDMA 850/900
GSM 850/900/1800/1900

Can I expect it to have better reception than say an iPhone 4S that only has the following modes:
WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100
CDMA 850/900
GSM 850/900/1800/1900

Or worse yet, an iPhone 4 (CDMA) that only has:
CDMA 850/1900

Digital vs Tri-mode phones?

Can someone explain the advantages of one over the other? I'm thinking tri-mode gives a greater capability in terms of searching for and receiving signals and avoiding dropped calls. Some of the supposed top phones Verizon offers are 'all digital' or 'digital handset' phones. Would this be something to avoid if I can get one with tri-mode instead? Please excuse my ignorance.

Where do you see the future of wireless going- REPOST

Reposting ATTDRONE2.5's question to correct forum. Just because I like this subject.

"i see everything condensed into the "phone" id, credit cards, money, paper, keys

You walk up to your car, press a button and it unlocks then plug it into the charger port and it starts.

You walk up to your house enter a code on the phone or press a button and it unlocks the house..

then instead of flipping a switch you press a button and the lights come on and then turn the tv on and start flipping thru channels using your phone

and then the fridge hands you a beer..

what's your opinion on the future?"

Carrier IQ Question

So I recall there being a brouhaha in the tech world earlier this year about Carrier IQ but in all the articles, blog posts, etc. I do not recall what the final word was on the issue and what, if anything, device owners can do.

I just got a new smartphone and downloaded an app which detected Carrier IQ was on my phone. What can I do about this and should I worry about it?

BTW, I have a Samsung Galaxy SII (T-Mobile).

What is wrong with flip phones?

Right now, there isn't a single flip smartphone available from the majors: Blackberry Style has been discontinued by Sprint.

Does everybody really need a 4" brick? Is there no more hope for a flip form-factor?

AMOLED Screens

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who thinks this, but personally I'm not a huge fan of the new AMOLED screens. I've briefly played with a few Samsungs that have them [one running Android, the other running Windows] and I think they look awful. There's a noticeable "screen door" effect and they look very low-res or like there's pixels missing v.s an LCD with the same resolution. Does anyone else feel the same way, or know why? Confused
