their rate plans are not that much lower. I was going to go with them. Well ok I tried them for 2 weeks and when I added it all together I was spending 130 a month and that didn't include text. I got like 1000 a month 2 phones and web that uses your minutes!!!! I get so much more with sprint I gave it back to alltel.

You must have a SERO plan. Those are very low, but you have to know about them and an employee email address to get it. Or the default emails.....most Sprint customers don't. Sprint does have some nice plans with SERO.

You were paying 130 for 1000 min, web, 2 lines and thats it. You obviously had some proration or overage. I cold get you a better deal then that!!

Sprint works really well in some areas. My experience has been that they aren't that great in rural areas.

It has nothing to do with the size of a company (On why Alltel is not in NY). Alltel does own any licensed spectrum in NY. Therefore, Alltel can not build a network or sell service. The only way Alltel can operate in NY is to purchase licensed spectrum or strike a deal with Sprint or Verizon to operate as an MVNO. Then as an MVNO, Alltel would use the network provided by Sprint or Verizon to operate so they could sell service under the Alltel brand. This is not going to happen. I would be extremely surprised to see Alltel purchase spectrum in the upper bands (PCS and is very expensive to build). Alltel typically operates in the lower bands (800/850 MHz) with a very small number of PCS licensed spectrum. The only way for Alltel to purchase sp...

Verizon & Cingular would outbid Alltel in the largest markets. Besides, in the largest markets, both Cingular & Verizon have to overlay their 800/850 networks with 1900 networks because the 800/850 networks alone can't handle the capacity that they could years ago, when cellphones were a luxury, and were made for making calls. If Alltel could obtain a cellular band license in a larger market, it's almost guaranteed that they would have capacity issues since they prefer to avoid PCS if at all possible.

They have to get the PCS licenses in the areas they want to overlay. But considering Alltel would have some time to build out the networks because they will be new to the area any likely will not have as many customers as VZW, Sprint, and Cingular. I think they will take the capacity issues over being swallowed up by bigger carriers over time.

Wireless carriers require licenses from the government to operate in a given area. They don't have any in NY. The only give a select number out. There is a new auction coming up for the 700 mhz spectrum, Alltel could very well have service there soon. But not right now. You could get an address in an alltel area and then use it where you live. You would run of Verizon and Sprint towers. But that isn't very feasible.

I doubt very highly verizon will buy them. They would more then likely have to spin off their wireline business and that is not going to happen. They have and are spending to much on upgrading their network on that side to allow for tv services and their is allot of money to be made both profit and to pay for the billions they are spending to do it!

uh, yes, i saw that, and i said alltel doesn't have any landline customers, which would mean verizon woudln't have to spin off their landline business(govt related), now if u mean to spin it off to pay for the merger, then yea that wouldn't make sense, since all the rage is to be a triple play like cable..

Sprint was required to spin theirs off as we now have Embark local instead of Sprint. It wasn't to pay for anything it was govt required!

I wouldn't expect to see big V buying anyone else, anytime soon. It seems that V is getting the network upgraded, and trying to move to 4G at it becomes available. Estimated cost per tower is over one million dollars.

That combined with V's internation asperations, leads me to think that a buyout is way out of the picture, but a possible shared stock partnership isnt'.

I could imagine that for certain network license exchanges, combined with stock sharing, could make a joint partnership a possiblity. This is pure speculation, just looking at past moves that V (and GTE before that) has made.
