we just recieved a shimpment in of 5550's and they look pretty cool. Hope they don't have the same problems the 3100a has (being stuck on analog). Its basically a vx-4600 thats silver and burdundy. I just hope it sells. It's a lot better phone than that 3587i.

☹️ I have had the phone since last Friday. I am not very impressed with the reception. Not sure if it is ALLTEL or the phone. Recently switched from NEXTEL and ATT. ALLTEL really does not have the phone selection that the major players have.
I do not recommend this phone. As I have had more people mention that I am breaking up in the last 4 days than I did with my prior carriers. What to do?

You've only had it for a week. ALLTEL has a 14 day return policy. TAKE IT BACK! If you're not happy they'll get you a different phone. If you're still not happy with the service then you can cancel.

Where are you located? Maybe I can suggest a carrier that can fit your needs.

I've been on ALLTEL for the past9 months and I can tell ya that I'm not happy at all with my service. I've dropped more calls in two months than I have since I started using cell phones when I was 16.

I had Alltel for a whole 4 days and returned it. The service is absolutely horrible in Southern Wisconsin. Customer service in the retail store was even worse. All peachy when I wanted to sign up, but next to impossible to return it. Went back to my USCC and picked up the 5550. Service is great and I love the phone. Life is good again.

that sucks it doesn't work in wisconsin(then again it doesn't cause i've never been there). I'm in LA and it's pretty good here. I have to agree about the retail stores customer service they can be real butt holes sometimes. I'm a dealer for alltel and they treat me like S!@T half the time. I say why even continue with it take it back before you forget about it and miss your fifteen days.

It's definitely NOT the phone, must be Alltel's service. The reception on the 5550 is awesome, probably our best phone for US Cellular.

in fairness...it could still be the phone...any dealer can tell ya that defective units do happen occasionally, that's still worth a try.

As for ALLTEL's service....I've gotta call them tommorrow to find out why on earth I'm hearing from my family/friends that they've called me three or four times in a day, I've had a signal all day, but the phone NEVER rang. Plus, instead of getting my voicemail they get a disconnected message, but in the same day I get several calls. I've been waitin to hear about a job, and if I missed that VERY important call cause ALLTEL dropped the ball I'm gonna be highly pissed.

Well, I really don't understand all the negative about Alltel. First, for some reason, any company looking to make profit is BAD. BAD, BAD company. Let's get real. They are NOT here to make people happy, except their stockholders, just like 99% of all other companies. Profit, or die. Like it or not, welcome to corporate America.

Second I am in Southern Wisconsin. Now let's look at this objectively. There are USCC fans who insist their service is better than Alltels's.

Really?

We have 25+ towers up in SW Wisconsin. 6-8 more are scheduled to go up before EOY 04. If you don't get signal on Alltel's towers your phone jumps over to USCC's towers, no charge. So explain how USCC's signal is better than Alltel's.

Alltel has been very agg...

pc what the hell are you talking about. nobody said anything about stockholders or corporations we're just talking about coverage. What you just posted is a perfect example of what i get every time i have to call customer service and rac. someone who doesn't know what the hell they're saying or doing. I've never been to Wisconsin but you can do to any city and there will be a company that can get better coverage than the other (even if they both have roaming agreements with eachother). Alltel works better than Verizon in my area so what. It's just an opinion thats varies customer to customer. Do you how many towers USCC has in that area? cause if you don't then you can't make a tower debate. don't get me wrong people i love alltel but i ...

I'm just not happy with Alltel's service and coverage. It has nothing to do with their wanting to make a profit, or their shareholders or their towers. I was informed today that I live right in a gap in between two towers' coverage area. There's one on "either side of me" but there's about a 1-5 mile area between the range of the two. I live in that gap. There's no way to fix that really, so as long as I'm on Alltel I'm gonna be dropping calls. As for the system telling people that my number's been disconnected when it hasn't...that's just WRONG. I tried to call and have it fixed today, but they can't because for some reason the call log doesn't extend back far enough to cover something that happened over the weekend. Not cool, so I'...

We are a reseller for Alltel & T-Mobile in Wisconsin. First of all did you know there is a call forward option on your rate plan? This feature might help you when you are at home -you will get those important phone calls. Also we (OUR STORE) are here to make return customers and we will do just about anything to help someone out - if you need help trouble shooting your V-Mail let us know! Since Aug. 3 the LG 5550 has been our largest seller with no complaints as of yet!

I was aware that I have call forwarding, but there's just one problem...I don't have a home phone. My cell is all I use so that option's out. As far as using V-mail, I'm well aware of how to use it. The problem is that ALLTEL's system is telling people that my number's been disconnected when it hasn't. The callers aren't even getting to my v-mail. If an important call comes in and doesn't even get to my v-mail, that person's gonna think they dialed the wrong number, or worse that it's been disconnected and give up tryin to call me. I could miss out on a job that way, and I don't appreciate it. I know you're tryin to help, but I'm switchin...that's it.

Thanks though

I tried Alltel for a long weekend. In Green County Alltel has 3 towers. USCC has 7 and 3 more in the immediate area. I was told that Alltel would work off of the USCC towers. Problem is that the phone kept picking up Alltel's signal first (as it is supposed to) and the phone wouldn't pick up the USCC towers even though I was sitting there staring straight up at it. Phone kept bouncing back and forth from Alltel 1 bar of service or none at all to analog and back and forth and so on and then picked up someone else's tower (I think Verizon) and then back again and never picked up USCC unless there was nothing else available. Phone couldn't decide what it wanted to do at all. I tried to force cdma only, and switch it to home/a or home/b an...

Yes I did. Several times. Besides, why should I have to? The phone was brand new and just programmed by the retail store 3 days earlier.

Just an FYI, but as of monday morning, PRL 804 was released...704 seemed to be a bust, so that may help. And ALLTEL has realized that coverage in southern Wisconsin needs to be improved, which is why 7 new towers are expected by end of year 04. Most along Hwy 151 and the southern edges. It will be improving tremendously.

Very cool phone. I love the voice services offered on it. We cant keep them in stock. As far as covereage I have heard mixed remarks. The only problem that I have seen are charging issues. We had 3 DOA's out of 2 cases.
