Could this happen?

I believe Alltel will one day be purchased by the great and mighty VERIZON WIRELESS. The way the Cellular Industry is going, I believe there will only be three or four major carriers! I know Verizon will be one and also Cingular and Sprint. So enjoy T-Mobile and USCC while they last!

But I do believe Alltel will bow down to the GREAT and MIGHTY VERIZON WIRELESS

I have to disagree. Cingular will be no more next year when it becomes AT&T Wireless again. 😁

As for T-Mobile, hopefully once they obtain licensing for the new spectrum the FCC is auctioning off they will be able to better compete when it comes to content offering. T-Mobile has been growing and will continue to grow thanks to their awesome plans and #1 Customer Service!

well first off, the fcc would never allow verizon to buy alltel, there are way too many areas where alltel is the A switch and verizon is the B. and Verizon buying alltel would create a monopoly in several areas and the FCC wont stand for it. And secondly I can definatly see Alltel buying T-Mobile in the future, the combination of Alltel's rural coverage mixed with T-Mobile's Urban coverage would be one heck of a match.

Not so fast. FCC would look at the acquisition very close (VZ and AT).

No spectrum cap. Decisions are based on market share (competition) by the FCC, SEC, and DoJ.

Let's use an example, Cingular and AT&T wireless.

Here is a license map of the merger between Cingular and AT&T Wireless. Majority of the overlap was divested due to lack of competition.
Alltel was ready to obtain the eastern shore of FL from Cingular due the merger .Alltel in preparation even acquired Port St Lucie market from USCC to complete the coverage gap. However, the DoJ decided that there was enough competition on the eastern shore of FL; therefore Cingular was not forced to divest those licenses.

Um, no we are not. Most folks don't know much about Alltel. They are a very cash rich company, one of the few comapnies that operate in the black. And they are the 4th or 5th largest carrier in the US. And now that they cut loose the wireline portion, they have alot of cash to be aggressive with. The next few years will be intersting.

Why would alltel buy T-mo unless I missed something in my wireless 101 class GSM and CDMA are not compatible. Also, Tmo is a larger carrier than Alltel. Could luck with your theory though!

We all use tdma! Well, that is if we have a trimode cdma phone or a dual or tri or quad gsm, but the fcc is fining companies for using tdma too much, and the tdma system is going the way of the analog system. It isn't a main system, and I don't see how Alltel could get T-mobile unless there was a way to make a gsm/cdma phone that actually works (battery life, signal strength) There has to be a reason why more companies don't have those kind of phones. But until they make a reliable one, it's impossible for T-Mobile and Alltel to join.

I didn't bother to read the rest of the posts, so it may be already mentioned. With current networks and roaming agreements, that would be one of the least benificial buyouts. Alltel may but more companies (like western wireless) or be bought by someone else, but not verizon. Alltel is currently collecting a pretty fair amount of cash for either another buyout or an EVDO push, keep an eye out.

On the other side...the company to watch out for in the wireless industry will be google. They have the capital, the following, and the best business plan in the market. Expect to see a lot more of them in the next 1-2 years.
