Do not know about all of Wisconsin but in the Frederic/Grantsburg area of Wisconsin I was very impressed with my alltel service when I was there a month ago esp. due to being in a total no mans land!!! Just my opinion but I hope this helps a little at least!!

Alltel is ok but I challenge anyone to try calling their local Alltel store and have a conversation with a human being. YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED. You will be transferred to some corporate headquarters in another state. Personally, I find this unacceptable, so I am with USCC. If you don't believe me, take my challenge. Look up the local Alltel store in your phone book and give 'em a call. I GUARANTEE you that you will be transferred. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I have made over 400 calls ( out of sheer stubbornness -- I know -- let the criticisms start flying about what I should be doing with my free time ) over 400 calls to Appleton and Oshkosh Wisconsin stores and have NEVER connected. So, this is just one factor to co...

I know it stinks but all Cellular company stores are extremely busy and that is why they have call centers set up.

I have NEVER failed to talk to a local USCC person in my area. I realize USCC is the exception to the rule in this -- and that is why they have earned my business.

What area are you in? I mean in my store we make every effort to the answer the phone but it is impossible when you have so many people in your store at once. Part of the reason behind is we are the only cellular company that I am aware of that handles warranties and insurance on site. Way to go USCC if they are that good about answering the phone.

What part of WI? Northern WI Alltel is good, USCC is only covered by the nationwide plans there (roaming on Altell I think). Every other part of the state USCC from Door Co to IL and everywhere west of there, USCC wins hands down. Rock solid coverage everywhere you go. Alltel's coverage in Western WI from Green County to the river is a joke. I tried them for the 15 day trial and gave it back after a weekend and stayed with what I already had that worked excellent. The 2 clowns working in the Alltel store in Monroe WI were absolutely clueless not to mention very unprofessional in their appearance and attitude. Sorry I sound bitter, but where I am at Alltel just plain doesn't work and USCC kicks some serious butt.

I gotta chime in on this one and ask when you tried the service in Green County and the surrounding areas? In the past 12 months or so Alltel has put in several towers in southwest WI, and by several I'm talking close to 10. Also, as of April, the Monroe Alltel corporate store is now an Authorized Agent, and the former employees are no longer there. I know because I manage this agent company, and I assure you our customer service is extremely better than what was there before. We are working hard to build our own reputation and earn customers. We also carry a TON more accessories than anybody around. So I was just wondering when it was you were in there. Thanks.

Isn't the coverage the same? Doesn't alltel just use USCC and Verizon Towers, and the same the other way around? Why would it be different, I would only think where you want your phone to say extended network. Or whose nationwide plan is cheaper in WI.

It was Nov 04 I tried them when my USCC contract was up. Problem I had was they told me the phones would work just exactly the same as my USCC did. In other words, wherever there was a USCC tower I would pull them in. Not so. I sat in the parking lot of the truck stop in Juda looking at the USCC tower on the hill and the phone showed 1 bar (or less) of Alltel service. I was near Monticello (where USCC also has a tower) and the phone kept jumping back and forth to 1 bar or else to analog and not picking up USCC's tower. This is the same problem I had when I tried Verizon. If the phone picked up even a whiff of it's "home" signal no matter how weak it was it went with that even though USCC's tower was right above me. I realize that is ...

Just keep in mind when you are deciding, that USCC limits your promo minutes to just on their towers, I dont think Alltel does that, and USCC also has a 50% rule on the anytime minutes.

I dont know how or what works in wisconsin, but, make sure you put USCC's limitations into perspective when deciding, if you are going to be using USCC's towers most the time, then you are ok, but, if you travel and use your phone a lot, you may find a problem if you are on their national plan. I have found that if you are on USCC's system, you have good service. I am with verizon, and use Alltel's network all the time and dont have any issues there.

us cellular only has network in the southern half of wisconsin. the northern half of the state is cellular one. if you use your phone in this area you are roaming. us cellular may offer a package to include this area? alltel claims to cover all of wisconsin but in many areas by where i live they cannot sell to you because they dont have towers there. you might want to check on this.
