tethering options

will someone please verify this?

i know that alltel has a $30 a month tethering plan.

i've read online that you can also tether your phone without this plan by using the minutes in your voice plan. apparently all you'd need to do is get the proper usb cable and drivers, and for every minute you tether it's like talking on the phone for a minute. is this true or would you incur data charges if you did this outside the tethering plan?

As far as I know, it is impossible to tether an Alltel phone to a PC without adding the PAM feature.

You can tether w/o a data plan at this time. However eventually you will get "caught" and receive an ugly bill. The other thing is tech support will not assist with any trouble you have. Hope that helps

keep in mind though that you are getting pretty high speed internet (depending on location) for $30 a month. unlimited. No need for anything else..phone, data cord and computer. If you are caught tethering without the $30 you can be charged premium data charges..not sure what they are or anything.??? It is just a safe bet to go ahead and get the package if it is something you think you will use.

Have done it for years without the data plan - just minutes have been charged. VZW is the same way.

Just minutes or $30 for unlimited.

you can do it - it will only use minutes - so try to stay on N&W. Adam was right though, they will catch you at some point - they run the audits month to check and see how much data is being used with each line. - Not to hard to set up manual connection, but if you buy the kit, I'm sure the rep will dig in and offer the $30 pack - best idea is to have it.

I have seen to many times where customers tethered for a while and then eventually got caught and had HUGE overages in data minutes. $30.00 a month for UNLIMITED high speed internet in most cases is not bad at all... Its better to be safe then sorry...
