Smart Phone without a data plan.

I have the alltel palm treo 700p.

I am on family plan.

The family plan is a smart phone plan.

My smart phone isn't the primary phone on the plan.

My question is, "Has anyone been able to call in and cancel the data part of the plan. In other words, I would rather pay less per month and then not have the ability to use the web browser."

I have called in and talked to several alltel agents and they have all said that if I have the smart phone I have to pay higher price.

The reason I even ask this question is that i have a friend who activated a used verizon treo 650 on verizon wireless and was able to do this without data plan.

I purchased it from alltel when starting a new 2 year plan.

then you have to keep the data plan for the entire 2 yr contract. The only way to have a smart phone w/ out data plan is to pay full retail for the phone or get it somewhere else (ebay, friend...etc) Sorry.

We have had cases like this where customers want out of the data plan. I have seen cases where managers of the retail offices allowed the customer out of the contract for a $200.00 fee and removed their contract in order for the to upgrade to a non-smartphone. Alltel policy says: Customers on a Smart Choice Pack will be able to make anytime rate plan changes to any one of the Smart Choice Packs. However, Customers on a Smart Choice Pack will not be able to change rate plans to a non-Smart Choice Pack while under contract. So basically you are stuck with the smartphone for 2 years unless you can get a store manager to make the exception.

Hope that helps,

Adam

Well, I guess that makes sense and at least I know I don't just have to get the right agent.

What if I would go out right now and buy another smart phone and swap it out with mine?

Or do I have to wait for the end of my two years and then get another phone?

more than likely you are gonna have to wait for the contract to expire....I've heard that you can pay the $200 to get out of the contract and choose a new phone to upgrade to w/ a different plan but I dont know how to do it........Why do you want a smartphone if you don't want to use the data?

There are a host of features I like about my treo smartphone that don't need the data plan, not the least of which is the qwerty keyboard.

Also I have years of contacts with notes attached that wouldn't carry over on a feature phone.

Also other various apps designed exclusively for the Palm operating system.

I have heard this a lot lately. How are people doing this?? It sure isn't happening in my store. I have actually tried to do this for a customer. She got someone to change it...haven't looked at the account in a while so I don't know if the audit put it back on or not.
