What is being communicated to you about the merger?

Also, what is it like working for alltel?

not a damn thing yet....its pretty ridiculous. They are calling it a "merger" which we all know is not true.

I doubt that you will lose your job. VZW is going to need nearly all the alltel infrastructure to help maintain and service the new customer base and network size.

please ignore most of what he says. every post he makes is negative and has no real backing.

Would love to know what backing you have that alltel workers will keep there jobs? Verizon micro manges everything. I would not want to be a higher up for the company

cuz we're talkin bout higher ups here 🙄
more like call center and retail emps you stupid, worthless troll

if vzw is to acquire 8mil cust, then they need to keep the alltel emps. otherwise they would incur millions if not billions in cost to hire new emps. sure they will have to re-train the alltel emps, but thats not as costly as hiring all new ones

Not sure if everyone on this list knows that it costs about $36000 for each new emp - yeah I think they'll keep us.

I feel the same way. I would say that certain locations might be closed only if VZW already has a center in that city. I also think that those employees will have an opportunity to relocate.

Really? I recently got a raise. As far as making the employees "hustle" like you said in another post, what wrong with that? They have every right to expect there employees to work hard for the sales, you must not be a good sales person to think that the expect ions are to high.

As an Alltel employee I am very excited about Verizon's agreement to purchase Alltel. This is great for all of us... Alltel already has service in most rural markets and Verizon already covers the major markets. I am not worried about losing my job in retail sales however I am sure there will be some lay offs. I received a text this morning on my company phone about 9:20 this morning announcing the buyout. As far as I have heard the sale and transisition will be complete by December 2008.

With two very well known companies merging together expect great things to come! 🙂

i am a alltel call center rep and i am not excited about this at all. it will mean pissed off customers, and hopefully not a pay cut, because from what i have heard verizon call center reps make around 4 dollars an hour less as a tenured rep as i do a new hire. plus my circle is the best this in cell phones right now. so this verizon buy out will just ruin the great thing alltel has going for it. if the companies would actually merge meaning taking verizons coverage area and phone. plus alltel's plus my circle and anytime plan changes plus better prices/ rather than the higher prices of verizon/ plus maybe decent pay for a callcenter rep then i might be excited/ but it is just a buy out and then scrape the good stuff and i am not happy

I have a hard time believing that experienced employees with VZW are paid $4 less an hour then Alltel new hires. No one would work with VZW if that was the case, the have to stay completive in the market to attract new employees and retain the old ones.

Just to throw some ideas about employment in the air.
Alltel, as you can tell, is mainly, notice… MAINLY, in areas where verizon has no coverage, no coverage means there is no stores, no call centers, for the most part.
While this is not anything written, anything provable, I would imagine 70 - 80 % of businesses, (corporate locations especially for Alltel) will stay in business.  Indirects will adapt as they always have to do anyways.  If there is no coverage, Verizon won’t have a store there, it’s just that simple.  Anyone thinking that majority of the jobs will be lost, that’s so shortsighted and uninformed.  BB is a troll, if he worked for verizon, or works for verizon, hopefully he will lose his job ...

valid point, but you also have to take into consideration that the reps at the vzw center already know their jobs (kinda). i doubt they would make the current vzw employees move to another center.

Just my opinion but with Verizon gathering another 13 million customers they are going to want many more employees. I'd imagine they would want to keep some Alltel Call Centers and Stores

I'm glad that I work indirectly for Alltel AND Sprint. My pay/job status is determined by a local businessman.

I wish the rest of you the best of luck though, and hopefully this merger wont cause too many inconveniences.

Seriously. I manage a couple stores for a larger agent here, no worries about my job. I have a feeling that it would be karmic if they laid off the corporate store employees near one of our stores. When you lie, cheat and defame another store because you have weak sales you're bound to get some sort of smackdown. It'll be delicious. To those Alltel employees who are decent people and make their sales legitimately, I hope you are integrated into Verizon and everything runs smoothly for you.

What do you think will happen to those alltel employees in the area where Vzw has agreed to divest?
...

Aug 19, 2008, 5:32 PM
In divested markets, the buyer will have an option to retain, or not any current employees. Just as VZW has the option to retain Alltel employees, or not. Those who are performing well should not have a lot of worries.
