You would have to change over the software, your best bet would be to wait for alltel to release the phone, much safer..

No, you can not use another carriers phone on another companies network. The only way it could posibly be done is to have the phone "flashed". But it can be hard to find a store that will flash a non Alltel phone as they are not responsible if the phone gets fried.

Hi,

So let me ask, rather than start a new thread,

If I purchase a new, unlocked phone...one from Sony,

It will come with what software??? The default software for the phone, right?

When I use it on the Alltel network, what will happen? I will be able to use all the Alltel features but not have their proprietary stuff on my phone?

Then if I were to change over to a different carrier I would just take the phone with me, with no software changes and without it getting locked by Alltel?

Sorry so wordy....

Unless things have changed, you'd have to program Alltel software into the now unlocked phone. The same process would need be repeated to carry the phone to someone else.
