dear alltel, I just saw one of your commercials involving a sports star sitting at a meeting table with chad or who ever and the usual wirelss carriers...and he said that alltel dosnt resign a contract when they make changes, but the other carriers do...I just added unlimited family messaging to my at&t plan along with raising my minute plan and I didnt resign anything...so I think you need to spend less time bashing the competition and focus more on your crappy network...thanks

signed: a 3 year at&t customer

It's a commercial.......get a life.

If you base your purchasing decisions off a commercial alone without doing your own research...your a moron.

you should probably spend less time on this site and more time focusing on your crappy life 😉

well if a wireless company is willing to lie in thier own commercials to get business then that says alot about them and no other research needs to be done...and another thing I tried alltel a year ago...I wasnt impressed at all...so dont tell me to do more research.

I have alltel and they are not misleading. Some of you would be unhappy if the contracts were free unlimited 24/7, you do need a life. Go and get ripped off at Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and complain about that. I had the go phone for Cingular/AT&T and I had run out of day minutes, but nights and weekends were supposed to be free. I picked my phone up at 9:02 p.m and the phone did not work. I then proceeded to call Cingular/AT&T and they told me that I had to deposit $15 on my account to be able to access my free minutes. What, Huh? I thought the minutes were free. So what in the world did I pay $69.99 for anyhow? Other companies are misleading. I now have Alltel prepaid for the same amount and you know what? When I run out of day minutes my phon...

I dont know where you guys get this info from, but it dont matter who is better...I have been a customer of at&t's for over 3 years and I have made countless changes to my plan and have NEVER resigned anything, and my contract stays the same...I worked for best buy 2 years ago and I sold all carriers and at&t is one of the few companys that dosnt make you resign or resign with out you knowing...that happened to my brother with sprint...he changed his address and they resigned his contract for 2 more years with out him knowing...im not trying to start any conflicts...or make people angry...im just stating a fact...and that fact is at&t DOSE NOT resign contracts if customer make a change to their rate plan, or add and remove features from thie...

Incorrect. Customers may change thier rate plan at any time within the first 12 months of their 24 month contract. Anything after 12 months is an 11 month extention.

(Yes I work for at&t)

Now features you may add and delete at any time, This just applies to your voice plan

then why didnt I resign...I went from a single line to a family plan to add a line and my contract stayed right where it is...the new line signed a two year because it was brand new, but mine was never effected, in fact im still paying month to month untill I decide to to get a new phone

You had to sign a 2 year contract for activating a new line? That sounds lame.

Did you at least get a new phone at a discount or did you just activate a new line?

I have worked with Cingular/AT&T for 4 1/2 years and you are very correct. We DO NOT resign people on contracts unless they are upgrading (2yrs) or transfering service into someone elses name (11mths). There are VERY few instances where in the past you have had to agree to a new contract when excepting a promotional plan but that was over 4yrs ago.

In response to Shindig, you are incorrect. I worked for cingular/At&t for 5 years and I was a manager of a store. Cing/At&t does make you sign a new contract if you change plans. Now you may have never had to do this , but it is the policy of At&t and cingular to make you sign a new contract. I know alot of time changes made in stores never add the 2 year, but customer service does does it and it was being implemented more in the stores when I left. I can tell you if a customer was at the end of the contract and changed plans, they were required to upgrade if they are more than a year into the contract they were required to change. Now the policy may have changed since I was gone but I can tell you that it did exist , it just wasn't enf...

I only had to sign with AT&T (Cingular) for a new phone and the contract extension was only on that phone, not the other 3 lines I have. I was always able to switch between plans add and drop features without a contract extension, and this has been since 2004.

Unfortunately a majority of the buying public do just that, and it seems to be the norm.
And that's what keeps those wonderful ad people employed.
Now I like a good commercial just as much as the next person (especially during the Super Bowl, when all bets are off!), but knowing that the public ARE going to buy into the advertising, I think there should be some sort of responsibility to represent the truth.

And as far as I'm concerned, I don't find Chad sexy. Sorry. Actually I don't find any of the carrier reps in the commercials sexy. I find the commercials funny,

At&t only recently stopped doing that. Alltel started it. BTW Alltel has quite possibly THE strongest network out of the top 5 in the locations it serves, and every survey and consumer reports confirms that. Quit drinking the Kool-aid.

its funny you talk about how your 3G is everywhere your network is however, your network dosnt even hit new england, where it really matters....so again you need to focus more on your network....and another thing, I have had at&t for the past 3 years and I have never resigned my contract when I needed to make a change...you need to check where you get your info from.

THEY DON'T HAVE A LICENSE FROM THE FCC TO SERVE ANYWHERE ELSE. You do now that they HAVE to have that in order to build a network somewhere right? The spectrum is full, they are not giving those away anymore. It has NOTHING to do with where they "choose" to build their network. The auction for the 700 mhz spectrum is coming up, then you might see Alltel in new england....where no one outside of new england really cares about. You obviously don't know what you are talking about. You probably do however work for at&t. I don't work for Alltel, I just know about 100 times more about the wireless industry then 90 percent of the people on phonescoop. Don't come on this forum with BS about alltel's commercials and expect it to be considered unquest...

but don't forget that alltel and sprint signed a EVDO deal. So if alltel has evdo and sprint doesnt you get evdo and vice vs. Only thing is when I had sprint it worked flawlessly now with alltel even when I am in area say like Atlanta and I know sprint has EVDO I dont get it with my alltel phone. I think I have a PRL issue or something I need to get with alltel.

Right now Alltel is pushing sprint evdo roaming PRLs only to treos and data cards. You can manually update it on handsets though with teh right software. The prl being pushed to regular handsets is 30029. Sprint roaming is 40029.

Well like people have said before, what really counts is that Alltel is an amazing cell phone company, and I can voucher for that even though I've never had them because I have Verizon and whenever I do not have service, I am on Alltel, so what does that tell you? Also, they do cover a HUGE area and are expanding EVDO like madness! And how can you say New England is what matters? Last time I checked, the fastest growing parts of the country are the west and south, and the states that are not growing and losing people are in New England and the Midwest.

I think you should double check your contract! I'm just saying this because I don't want you to get screwed over. If you didn't resign anything (I doubt it!) then you must have been really lucky. AT&T could also just be really desperate (like Sprint and T-Mobile) to keep customers.

Also where were you when you saw this commercial?

Usually they don't make you change your contract just to add features unless it's a promotional feature.....I know Sprint made you renew if you changed your rate plan or added 7pm but not for texting.....that was awhile ago so it could have changed......Alltel only makes you renew when you purchase a new phone at the rebated price. I personally don't know about the other carriers but I'm sure Alltel did a little research before putting that in the commercial...they don't just make stuff up and broadcast it, especially since they have a bunch of roaming agreements w/ the other carriers and wouldn't want to piss them off by lying about them.
