What part of the US do they have a GSM network. I know its for roaming only for the GSM carriers. I read the roaming info from softbank here in Japan and it uses Alltel, Cingular, Tmobile, Dobson for roaming in the US.

If you're speaking of the the new Blackberry 8830 World Phone...it does NOT use GSM here at all. It will only pick up CDMA in the US. It will use the European frequencies when taken overseas. I would guess you might have picked up that information already. I have heard absolutely nothing about Alltel using OR going GSM here in the United States. If they are, it's news to me.

They have no plans of building a new network with gsm. But they did inherit a GSM network from Western Wireless when they purchased them. Western Wireless ran both GSM and CDMA. Here is a link to there roamer network that is gsm. http://www.gsmworld.com/cgi-bin/ni_map.pl?cc= us&net=wh

In all those areas they also simultaneously run their primary CDMA. The GSM network they have is only for roamers and it is limited on features/capacity/etc.
