I live in Mississippi and will not be getting the V710 because it's only being released in HSA markets. Therefore, I was looking at the Audiovox because I want an upgrade from my basic Nokia...but I just read that Nokia just released a new CDMA camera phone that looks pretty sweet (model 6235 i think). Anyone know if Alltel will be picking this nokia up anytime or should I just go ahead and get the Audiovox?

Thanks

I live in Mississippi, also. What's an HSA market? I understood that Mississippi WOULD be getting the v710. Has this changed?

I'm initially from Jackson, but live in Starvkille right now. The rep here told me the closest place that would be getting the V710 was going to be New Orleans. I think he said the HSA stood for High speed area or something, noting it's where they've installed the new 1xRTT technology that allows from higher speed wireless transfers. Anyways...i don't like Motorola phones because they can't vibe and ring SIMULTANEOUSLY (is it that hard) like LG, Audiovox, and Nokia can. Hopefully that nokia 6235i will be picked up by alltel soon.

Well, that sucks. I called my local Alltel location here in Flowood and they said 'no'. When I asked when, they said in about 9 mo to a year they should get it here. That's rediculous! It's times like these when Cingular/ATT look better and better. I like Alltel, their coverage here in MS is great, and I have a 39.99 for 1000m plan that rocks. However, the phones suck. So, can anyone tell me if I bought a phone on eBay could it be activated in this market? (not a verizon phone, but when Alltel phones start showing up on eBay)

PS: I lived in Starkville for two years. I lived on South Lafayette St. over by Rosey Baby's.

Alltel's rate plans are great, but like you said, their phones are not at all. Cingular is a great cell company, especially since they offer video messaging in their "digital" network, which is very large...so if you're into the cool stuff, like video and streaming, as well as high speed data, Cingular would be the better bet.

I'm in a high population area, and with only Alltel and the new Cingular available, and now a lot of people I know who have Alltel are now looking the other way.

HSA is High Speed Access. If you get an Alltel V710 and put the correct PRL into it. It should work fire. You just won't get 1x data transfer capability. Other than that, it should work fine. I've even put a Verizon 710 on Alltel and got the data to work by putting in the correct PRL and tweeking the data settings a bit.

Same here. All of the major carriers are available here but Alltel and Cingular are the biggest here. Many people are switching from Alltel to Cingular for many reasons.
1) High speed packet data in all areas.
2) All Digital network (GSM) in all areas
3) larger selection of phones.
4) video messaging and streaming video
5)international roaming
6) rollover minutes (trust me this is a great feature)
7)largest mobile to mobile calling area and customer base.
😎 migration to UMTS service (DSL speeds on a cell phone and video Phone calls)
And thats just a few. If you have a choice to switch do it

You are absolutely right, Alltel is operating an analog network...and compare that to Cingular's digital network. The rollover minutes is a big advantage. With the introduction of the UMTS network, around December 2005 and expanding though all of 2006, this will be the fastest, most advanced network in the U.S. The ability to place video calls, get broadband data speeds on your phone, and lots of other true 3G products...all available in large portions of the country, definately awesome. Even if your phone from Cingular now isn't the best, hang in there, you're with a winnder, the best wireless experience is coming.

Alltel might look into expanding their high-speed Access data service, with all of this news happening with Cingular...w...

Cool..I'm on gillespie st close to the intersection of washington street right off of the intersection with jackson

Stay with Alltel. The CDMA tecnology is inherently better than GSM in my opinion. Also, the new Audiovox 8910 is what i think i'm about to buy, so i'll post my review after a few weeks with it. Hopefully nokia will get that 6235 out soon.

I used to have Alltel (before I switched to Cingular) Whenever I placed a call there was this annoying clicking sound before it went through. I could be talking at my house with a perfect signal and still get a dropped call (this happened with 3 different phones over the course of a year) I have since switched to Cingular (which actually has packet data service accross it's network) and I have never been happier. Even on a much crowded network I have never had a dropped call. I never end up using analog service when I enter a building where coverage is limited. And no matter how many bars I have I get the same good call quality no matter what. I am actually able to send picture and video messages in my area now because Cingular has GPRS and ...

yea...my friend has a phone just like this from nokia (not sure if its the same or not though). if that is to come to alltel...it prolly wont come for at least 6 months. cause they always have to "test" the phone. i think they just get the phone at a cheaper price if they wait til almost no one likes it.
