Alltel disappointment
I have been patiently and quietly waiting for Alltel to release an acceptable selection of phones. I've had it, I will be switching to another network. Alltel has been my provider for 5 years and their service has been aduquate / on par with other carriers. I'm sure that other customers of theirs feel the same and have / will leave for the same reason. What a dissapointment from an otherwise good service provider.

Worked there for almost 5 years and it was always the same way. Everyone else had the cool phones. I think they will always be that way. Work for the Big V now and love it. Phone selection is great with some amazing things on the way in the next year. Will Alltel have streaming video on their phone in the next year--I dare say NOOOOOO! If you have Verizon in your area-check it out.

If you want a phone with a bunch of multimedia functions then get a palm pilot. DO you want a phone or a gizmo gadget? I personally want a phone that makes and receives phone calls, that's what they are designed for. Alltel does a good job at that.

I am not in need of a "gizmo," I want what every consumers wants, the latest technology. Your argument holds no water, if every other provider can make these phones available, then Altell surely can if they want to. To further my point look to any other industry, if what you say is true we would all be riding bicycles.... all you need is transportation.

Verizon is full of 😲. If you really want technology why not go to Sprint. They're a cdma carrrier thats ahead of verizon in that category but most people won't why? Cause people prefer coverage and not technology. there is no way you can say that everyone needs to check there email or wants picture messaging. I can sell Lg vx3100a's all day. And no we wouldn't be riding bicycles cause horses move faster.........you think anyone still uses those things anymore?

Certainly, I am no expert when it comes to cell phone technologies and my post was never intended to elicit sarcasim or name calling. As you seem to be well informed, perhaps you can answer this question - Why do other CDMA carriers offer a larger selection of phones and Alltel does not?

I agree, that's certainly a good question, Alltel is the only CDMA carrier that significantly lacks in phone selection. That should be changing as other carriers, in general, are updating their phone offerings.
This is a matter of being left out in the cold when other carriers are offering new and better technology, as well as more features and services.

That's simple wood, cause Alltel sucks. Seriously it's usually one of two things why they dont have a big selection.
1. they are still getting new activations despite the lack of phone selection and that actually makes them profitable cause they don't have to carry as many phones as another company. Companies like Verizon and sprint has a lot of high end phones which means they have to push data to sell them. Alltel can offer more minutes and doesn't need to push data for a nokia 3587i.
2. Could mean that they are holding out for for a new technology upgrade. Cingular before they went gsm had the absolute worst phone line up now look at them.

Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but sadly Alltel is a rural provider, at least in kansas. They can't afford to get nice phones from cell phone makers because they just don't have the weight to throw around.
Alltel is second to none as far as coverage in Kansas. THe people that come in and complain with issues with service do so without knowledge that all other providers would be worse.
That's just my little tid bit of info, in slight defense of alltel. But I do agree that a better phone selection would greatly increase/maintain their customer base.

I don't believe it. They can carry more different phones if they wanted to. There are lots of phones out they could pick up, maybe it's because of manufacturer agreements with other carriers, I don't know and have never seen an explination.
Alltel does have great coverage in MI too. Their pones flat out stink!!! I ended up with a LG5550 (one of their latest offerings)and it's terrible.
