Storm Reviews Are In!! (and they're not good)

Wow,

I pretty much decided last week that I wasn't going to get the storm and after reading reviews and watching videos for almost an hour last night, my decision looks like a good one.

I'll let you guys decide for yourselves, but right now, it looks like RIM and verizon have a lot of work to do to make this phone the touchscreen powerhouse that it needs to be.

The following sites have in depth reviews:

I've been playing with one for almost 24 hours now. biggest issue for me is the os lag.

It lags as you go from portrait to landscape. and sometimes will not go back to portrait without hitting the end key.

It also takes a few secounds to open applications.

Nothing here is a dealbreaker, hopefully will be fixed with the newest software upgrade. I was using version .65

I heard they are releasing .81 or .86 on friday. I guess we will have to wait and see.

i've been unofficially hearing the same thing. I literally just got my shipment and they are all version .65, no ota updates out atm.

Hopefully something tomorrow, but no internal communications on anything other than updating from .61 to .65 right now

I got 5 in my location as well, I am now officially spazing the funk out on every person who told me to put it into 5 star to guarentee delivery of my product to meet the need.

I am officially looking for another job today, I cant put my reputation through this.

Anyone who puts any type of guarantee out there a popular gadget deserves what they get.

Gadget releases rarely go as planned and none of these shortages really shock me in the least. Just gotta take it in stride and hope people dont freak out too much.

I have said this many times before and you all laughed at me. Finally someone agrees with me that this Storm is way too heavy.

quoted from Gizmodo: "It's surprisingly heavy. Like, heavier than RIM's manly slab of smartphone, the Bold, at 5.47 oz to the Bold's 4.7 oz. "

i don't know what's the big deal about a phone being heavy. i like my phones to be a bit on the heavy side. i played with my friend's storm last night. i was not too impressed with the touch screen's lag, but i'm sure it'll get fixed

But what if Telstra or Three Mobile gets this phone and suffers the same bugs ...? Then I'm assuming it would be a Telstra or a Three phone? Even though the bugs are identical between Telstra and Verizon Wireless?

Every single review Ive read about the Verizon Storm has been bad. SMH. I was already on the fence when I read some of the review about the Vodaphone Storm. But I was optimistic figuring Verizon would have solved all these issues before the Storm get released on Verizon.

These reviews are not leaving a sour taste in my mouth.

From the way these reviews sound, most of the problems seem to be software related. I can deal with buggy software, I dealt with my Pearl's occasional hickups, but nothing that would be considered a deal-breaker. I'm still going to get one, no matter what a bunch of "critics" say...who's with me?

Actually I went into the corporate store yesterday and played with the keyboard for about an hour.

Personally I think it is totally a preference as to what you like.

Myself I will be there bright and early waiting for our corp store to open.

As far as the buggy software I dont believe I have ever seen a phone of any kind come out and be perfect. There are always software upgrades and they usually fix the bugs

We are under a huge lake effect snow storm from Tonight until Saturday but you can bet I will still be out there bright and early tomorrow Morning !!!!!!!!!!

no one needs wi fi on our network, those other networks have a dependancy upon it. no one is in need of this on vzw because of our superior coverage and fast data speeds that we are already paying for.
...
texaswireless

Nov 21, 2008, 3:26 PM
Dude you really are a moron aren't you.

WiFi does so much for so many people. Even if Verizon has a good network WiFi still has a demand for those who travel worldwide, those who travel rural, those who want faster speeds when the coverage is there (Verizon still is not as fast as DSL/Fios, etc).

So what you are saying is Verizon does not have WiFi on any handset because they just don't need it?

I for one would love to have wifi on my vzw BB. I use it on a lower level at work, and having coverage there would be great. Besides, since I have wifi there, and at home I could almost do without the VZ data.

No CDMA blackberry has wifi. This is typically been a GSM feature amongst Blackberry. I have heard conflicting stories on the storm. Some say verizon strong armed RIM, others say RIM had no intention of putting it in there.

The BB Niagara (CDMA Bold variant) is supposed to include wifi and should be out in Q1/Q2 of 2009

And verizon does offer several WM devices with wifi

Think sometimes some people need to be alittle forgiving of a silly electronic device, there are certainly more important issues in life that matter much more , jmo. Occasionally, we ALL experience a "blip" of inconvenience, like may have to power your ph off for a minute...not such a biggey in the big picture of life..

so let me get this straight, they are bashing it for all the same reasons they originally bashed the iphone for , software and weight. The weight is the exact same as the iphone and the software is easily fixed , which i know is about 3 weeks away from being fixed.

so hell yes I am getting one, actually I am getting 2. And I have been using one for a couple weeks now, I got one through beta testing, and even with the weak glitches it is still a monster of a device and I will love it for everything it can do.

So many on here saying its not a great device or its the best out there...c'mon y'all! It just came out! Give it time, at least use it a week before bashing it or crowning it king. I don't agree with any positive or negative feedback at this point because people are judging too quick. Where's Simon from American Idol? Sounds like he's been here!
