BB Pearl works fine

I just downloaded as well, and it works fine on my ATT BB Pearl. I'm getting location info at 1700 meter resolution which is better than nada. 😉

I'm not sure how Google is implementing it software wise, but the large location ring could be due to the GSM network. In a GSM network, your phone "talks" to only one tower at a time. Therefore, you're limited to location generated off the cell sector and some basic time calcs for xmission.

In a CDMA network, your handset talks to several towers at a time, therefore giving a better chance at true triangulation.

That's IF Google is using this info to generate the location information.

I'd like to hear what experiences other users have had on GSM (ATT, TMobile) and C...

I'm getting virtually the same thing you are. I use an unlocked Nokia N95 on T-Mobile, in Austin, TX.

That sounds correct to me.

I'm also getting 1700 meter resolution on my Tilt (with GPS turned off), and the center of the circle always seems to be in the same place. I'm guessing that's the physical location of the cell tower that I'm talking to, so the only thing the app can tell me is that I'm within range of that specific tower.

What's funny is that when I turn on GPS, it searches for satellites briefly and then tells me that my location isn't available. After a few seconds (once it locates the satellites), it "wakes up" and homes in on my GPS location perfectly. It seems like GPS and "My Location" don't play well with each other in some way.

It's pretty darn close to my exact location here in the Phoenix suburbs. I am using a VZW BBerry 8830.

What kind of range is it giving you? When you press '0' it should give you a circle around your location with a phrase at the bottom indicating approx location to within x meters.

Well it gives me a circle with a dot in he middle and says approx range within 5000 meters, however I am maybe a block or two away from the dot in the middle even though the circle is huge.

Thanks. A little different than I expected for a CDMA handset.

As I stated earlier, mine is showing up with a 1700 meter approximation.

Hmm, seems when I move over 20 yards and ask it to locate me again it gets my location even more accurately and the circle's range decreases to 1700 meters. Overall I'd say it's a decent substitute to GPS.

I've played with it a good but today and I've seen approximations of 900, 1100, 1500 and 1700 meters.

There were also a couple completely wrong plots. Those could be due to bad geolocation info.
