Not taking sides or anything, but just to provide some balance by way of counter-points:
On 3G coverage, T-Mobile is rolling out 3G VERY aggressively in coming months.

They claim that 2/3 of their footprint will be covered by 3G by the end of the year. That's a major expansion in coverage.
As for the features vs the Instinct or Dare, those do no run open platforms quite like the G1 with Android. Because it is a major open platform for many future devices, there is ALREADY more software announced that will work with the G1 than for the Instinct or Dare. If a specific software/feature is not available yet, I would bet money on it being available for the G1 before the Instinct or Dare. (If it is ever available for the latter two.)
