Today T-Mobile USA touted the progress it is making in its roll-out of its 1700MHz 3G network. 3G voice and data services are available in 13 T-Mobile markets, including Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Phoenix, Portland, San Antonio and San Diego. By the middle of October, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Francisco and Seattle will also have access to 3G. A handful of other markets will be live by the end of 2008, making for a total of 27 markets served. T-Mobile will continue to roll out its 3G network throughout the 2009 calendar year.

SIGNAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS PATHETIC!
Good point!

Wait... I'm looking at my phone right now and I have a full signal.

I guess they don't need to work on "THERE" signal after all...

I don't know about you but I get e-mails about new towers about every other month in the LA/OC area

No need to yell, my man! I will agree with you on the signal, though; because in my house, T-Mobile doesn't work, while my at&t phone does.

1700??

T-Mobile 3G is great, but why can't they use 1900 for 3G like all the other US carriers. This way I can't use my unlocked AT&T phone on their network.
My co-worker was complaining about the same thing when we found out like a year ago. I've read reviews from people in New York about average connection rate being faster with T-mobile 3G compared to ATT, which could be related to it being on a differ...

Because T-Mobile has a limited amount of spectrum... not enough to deploy 3G and GSM.
AT&T is running into spectrum issues in many markets (hint any dropped calls on 3G?). I have this issue in Los Angeles.
Thats because 1700 is a better band for 3g. So it will be quicker and don't have to worry as much about network traffic. 1700 is also what they use overseas so just get a phone from Europe.
...
if they could, they would
but they can't (not enough spectrum, WCDMA requires 10MHz spectrum at least)
NYC market only has 20MHz of 1900 spectrum, if T-Mobile deploys UMTS on this band, both 2G and 3G will crumble
FCC offered AWS/WCDMA IV, and this...

Albuquerque 3G

I was wondering, while I am with AT&T, I wonder when will T-Mobile launch 3G in Albuquerque.

AT&T already has 3G here and has gained quite a bit of subscribers, however, T-Mobile still has a larger subscriber base in the Albuquerque market, being second only to Verizon.

I'm surprised that T-Mobile will not launch 3G in Albuquerque anytime soon. Albuquerque was one of the first AT&T 3G markets after their mass 3G rollout. Since Albuquerque is a stronghold for T-Mobile, it would make sense if T-Mobile were to launch 3G in Albuquerque before the end of 2008.
It largely depends on when the government vacates the spectrum. T-Mobile has all of the equipment necessary in place and, as the government leaves the spectrum, T-Mobile flips the switch soon after. At least, this is what I was told.

we need more hardware.....

without decent hardware (phone), it's difficult to attract customers to migrate to 3G, even it has good data performance

More 1700 MHz handsets coming?

With the news of the continuing expansion of T-Mobile's 3G network on the 1700 MHz band, are any new 1700 MHz capable handsets in sight? A Phone Finder search on Phonescoop only turns up 4 T-Mobile phones that work in the new spectrum, and I don't think they're all that appealing compared to their offerings in the traditional GSM bands. Even a basic RAZR with 1700 MHz added would be nice - Cricket and MetroPCS already have a RAZR that'll work in the 1700 MHz band, albeit CDMA not GSM, so the different bands must be easily adaptable.

So hopefully smaller markets during next year?

Like Memphis, or Oklahoma City.
I know that this town is stuck in the 60's but I'd like to see Las Cruces get it soon too...
