AT&T To Begin Un-branding Cingular Monday
Replying to: what a pain!! by linkfeeney
The Real Pain is:
Cingular isn't "changing back" to AT&T wireless. The merger between the old company that was formerly known as AT&T wireless & Cingular is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the rebranding/name change of the current Cingular company.
What happened back in 2004-2005 was 2 separate companies coming together to form one new company, integrating all the employees, assets, customers, & network elements into one larger company.
What's happening now is: that large company is changing it's name & brand image to that of it's parent company, and the name just happens to be similar to one that was used by one of the companies prior to integration.
They're not going "back" to AT&T - they never WERE AT&T - they're changing the name of the company to match the parent company.
It's complicated, but anyone with the patience enough to read and a memory of more than 4 years can understand it.
