AT&T To Begin Un-branding Cingular Monday

Article Comments  100+

Jan 12, 2007, 1:53 PM   by (staff)

AT&T will begin a campaign to rebrand Cingular starting Monday, January 15. Cingular will eventually be known as AT&T, not AT&T Wireless. AT&T will launch national advertising to let customers know that "Cingular is now the new AT&T." That feature products will end with the Cingular "Jack" spinning or swirling to morph into the AT&T globe. Other commercials are being created simply communicate the brand change. They will feature scenes where it looks like the Cingular "bars" are being illustrated and zoom out to show that it was actually the AT&T globe. As Cingular begins to officially change their name, subscribers will be notified about changes on their bills. AT&T will also begin taking advantage of Cingular's retail presence and advertising AT&T wireline service in stores that are located in AT&T service areas.

Thoughts from a Cingular employee

For starters, I would like to echo what has been said by many already...

In terms of a service downgrade, your service will not change at all, if anything, it will only get better.

As a sales employee, some things are changing, and it seems to be for the better. Our quotas have changed, and its made our job easier and less demanding. We're now allowed to price match places like RadioShack, Walmart, Bestbuy, ect... And best of all, we're still Unionized.

The only downfall I see is a short term problem... and thats the confusion its going to cause for some customers. A lot of customers just simply dont understand, and they dont seem to care or want to understand. I will also admit that I like the name "cingular" better than "ATT...

Does price matching get you the same amount of commision as if you sold it for full price? If not, it doesn't help you too much. Also, being Union is up and down, if they decide to strike tommorow you are assed out of a check.
And you spoke of custo...

MY BIG QUESTION IS WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN TO THE CINGULAR BLUE SIDE. NOW I KNOW THAT THEY TRANSFERED ALL OF THE ACCOUNTS FROM SIEBEL SYSTEMS TO TELIGENCE....BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ACTUAL ACCOUNTS? IS IT NOW GOING TO BE CINGULAR BLUE CINGUALR ORANGE AND NOW...

1-800TELLME

This is a free service that you can use to get news, weather, and more all for free. This is much cheaper than to pay for VoiceConnect from cingular. This is just in case you did not know about this free service
Is that the same as the '#121' VoiceInfo service Cingular has?

I like the Sean Connery Blackjack game on long drives.

Cingular turning to ATT

Does anyone know about our contracts? My husband and I love cingular and they are the only ones in our area we can get coverage. Do we know anything about roll over minutes?

Most of all changes to our bill? If this will bring new charges my husband and I will not be happy. I know it might just be a few upings here and there. But, they sent out no prior notification or anything. Nothing explaining what is going on. Which kind of makes me mad... you would think they would keep current customers in the loop.

Plus, I like the little orange guy better than some stupid globe.
It's only the brand that will be changing - nothing else.

This isn't like AT&T Wireless being absorbed by Cingular. That was one wireless company merging into another. In this case, Cingular's parent companies are changing, but everything directly ...

Question about phones for the new at&t

I'm just curious will this new change have any affect on getting a new line or more phones? I would love to see a newer or better variety of phones, no offense to motos but I'm tired of seeing the same phones but diff. colors. I would like to see more nokias available. is that a possibility? Nokia seems to pick up great in my area, I have had allot of trouble with moto. but just curious. Thanks in advance!!!

The original buy-out obviously affected customers, but the name change now has no effect on customers. The only customers "affected" by this are the idiots that were fine with Cingular but have some problem with the AT&T name and no longer want to be...

Any word on whether there will still be rollover minutes??

Is it safe to assume that the Rollover feature will stay intact with the change back over to the AT&T name? It WAS Cingular's exclusive feature prior to its merger with AT&T a couple of years ago.
yes, nothing is changing except the name

A very happy Verizon Wireless sales rep!

$$Money$$ spent on rebranding is money that could (and should) be spent improving overall network coverage and quality. Not that I'm complaining since I sell Verizon and work right next to a Cingular store. 😁 Ma Bell has put all her pieces back together and looks to dominate the US again. I hope that at least on the cellular side Verizon shall re-take #1 status within the next year.

It's the network!!! 😛

Can't wait til Monday! Cheers AT&T! 😉
no verizon wont take number one. so be happy your at least in second place..for now
...
Nice flame war you started here, DEMOLIX. 😁
We will see what all these Cingular fans say when Verizon does take the number one spot this year.
*End flame war*
Wasn't Verizon Wireless supposed to take #1 by 2005? Here it is getting close to 2 1/2 years later, and it hasn't happened yet.

It's not the network I guess.
...
dont get your hopes up im not porting or changing companies anytime so, GO AT&T!, if i do port it wont be verizon, it will be tmobile or sprint. or i might go to Ampd that uses your golden God-blessed network but dont have the same bigbother practices...

what's gonna happen to my plan?

what a disaster

please, someone, explain to me why why why

People who don't understand the situation! 👿

Cingular isn't "changing back" to AT&T wireless. The merger between the old company that was formerly known as AT&T wireless & Cingular is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the rebranding/name change o...

Couple of questions

1. When the merger goes through Cingular customers are going to loose their rate plans and roll over minutes?

2. Are people not agreeing with the merger being let out of their contracts without penalties?

3. What service changes are going to be made during the merger?

4. Are we going to have to go through the webpage/online payment fiasco again?

5. How long are the Cingular branded phones going to work without being replaced?

6. When can we expect to be able to look at new AT&T rate plans and features? Will they be cheaper?
do you understand english? it's nothing but a name change. simple.
I think most of your questions are covered pretty extensively in this forum already.

It is only a name change this time around. No merger issues.

BAD Idea!!

I think the CINGULAR name is a better brand to have for a cell phone co. than having ATT&T. I will leave cingular after my contract expires then I will join Sprintel. Others will probably do the same and cigular will then realize that they made a BIG mistake.
I wouldn't care if it went back to being called CELLULAR ONE, as long as my service stays good.

Thoughts from a former pre merger AT&T employee

The Commission will still suck for cingular employees, the only thing that will change is that Cingular reps will have to sell land line services. What a complete waste of money marketing and re branding all those legacy At&t wireless stores. From the start legacy at&t customers were forced to switch to cingular reason being, if your phone broke or wanted to upgrade your phone you were not given a choice you were forced to buy a Cingular headset. I remember when we originally merged Cingular sent out unlocked headsets to all stores later only to recall them and send locked cingular headsets. 🙂 🙂 😁

For all those customers who still have legacy At&T headsets and plans you can use your insurance, they will have to replace your phon...

A horrible decision by AT&T

AT&T seems to be the proverbial phoenix, rising from its ashes and taking flight again gobbling up telecom companies and well on its way to becoming the monopoly it used to be. Under AT&T's control, the previous AT&T Wireless was a terrible service provider for many of the people I knew that used it. Cingular breathed new life into it and under their brand took cellular service to the top of the game. Now, suddenly, AT&T re-emerges and takes over Cingular and topples the name without really considering the branding of the name "Cingular" and its customers. Cingular just in the last year finally purged most if not all of the old AT&T Wireless phones, plans, SIMS, etc. from its system. Now its customers have to endure the headaches of now goin...
