AT&T seems to be the proverbial phoenix, rising from its ashes and taking flight again gobbling up telecom companies and well on its way to becoming the monopoly it used to be. Under AT&T's control, the previous AT&T Wireless was a terrible service provider for many of the people I knew that used it. Cingular breathed new life into it and under their brand took cellular service to the top of the game. Now, suddenly, AT&T re-emerges and takes over Cingular and topples the name without really considering the branding of the name "Cingular" and its customers. Cingular just in the last year finally purged most if not all of the old AT&T Wireless phones, plans, SIMS, etc. from its system. Now its customers have to endure the headaches of now going in reverse to do this all over again. It's enough for me to consider taking on another carrier I am so disappointed in this decision.
If anything, they should have left the Cingular name as it's more hip than the 100+ year old, "American Telephone and Telegraph" moniker that is old, clunky and just a bunch of boring letters.
You know I really don't dig this monopoly thing you guys are talking about, because it's not like "new" companys or other smaller companys can't merge together and compete with AT&T. Besides Comcast seems to be keeping up with them toe to toe with all the back to back digital voice commercials, and the AT&T ones about power outages...
Verizon and Sprint have home phone service too, all they need is a tv company. Like Direct TV, or W.O.W or any other local or national tv service... can go with one of them... Every company out there has a fighting chance, and just because you're on top doesn't mean you can't get knocked down...
It's the real world people, not a board game... you may pass go anytime you like.
