Samsung Alias 2 questions

Is a good phone to get after having the voyager? It looks like a sweet phone. Thanks for the imput. Please let me know what those positives and negatives would be to having that phone thanks.
I would suggest u to wait for couple more months... cuz by end of this year or beginning of next year, vzw will likely to have enV touch, which is another name for voyager 2... i saw the brief spec and it would be a good replacement of voyager 1...
After having the voyager, this phone will suck. Its extremely hard to type and is slow at times. The camera sucks as well. The only pro to this phone is thats its indestructible. I've dropped it many times and even tried to drown it and i still won't ...

i will be upgrading my horrible Voyager to either the Alias 2 or Env3. i was hoping someone out there can answer some questions for me to decide which phone to go with. with the Alias 2...

1) can the backlight on the keypad be set for different times before it times out?

2) how easy is threaded texting on this phone? seem like i read a review saying it's not as easy as you think.

3) does the t9 save made up words? ex..i like to use '2mor' instead of spelling out tomorrow. once i type the short version, will the fone (t9) remember it?

4) does the front display show if u have a text, vm or missed call? i read something in the many reviews i read but can't find what i saw to refreshen my memory.

5) can i assign a different r...

MP3s as Ringtones

I used to have Alltel before Verizon bought them. With Alltel, you could not have mp3s from your SD card as ringtones because of some stupid anti-piracy crap.

With Verizon, if I put my SD card in a new phone (with mp3s from CDs I bought) will I be able to put a select mp3 from my card as a ringtone on the phone?
Can anyone answer the previous question?
I can use my Mp3's as ring tones by simply emailing to "your number" @vzwpix.com and add the ring tone as a attachment. Download the file after you send it to your phone and save it.

Compatibility with MicroSDHC and Voice Quality

Has anyone tried buying an MicroSDHC card for the Alias 2? I know it is compatible with MicroSD but want to talk to someone who has used it with a MicroSDHC before I go ahead and buy one.

Also, I am way dissapointed with the call clarity on the Alias 2. I replaced this phone with an Audiovox color flip phone I bought 5 years ago and can honestly say that it had better phone call quality than the Alias 2.

I guess with all this hype with qwerty keyboards and apps, cell phone manufacturers are forgeting it's a PHONE.
My Alias 2 has really bad sound quality too. So did my first Alias! I love every other aspect of this phone and luckily I dont talk all that much. But the sound qualitly is very muffled. When I upgrade I will not be getting another Alias.

Asking for password

So my phone froze after receiving several text messages at one time. I turned it off (even took out the battery) and rebooted. When it came back up, it asked me for a password. I never set a password for the phone, and I've tried every number I can think of (last four digits of number, last four digits of ss#, and an entire assortment of other guesses). Verizon store said they couldn't help, and I would have to buy a new phone. Any ideas what the password might be? Or an override ability for the password? Thanks for all of your ideas.

calendar questions

I have a few questions regarding the calendar feature on my Alias 2 phone. I am a former Nokia 6255i owner, and I have been used to being able to set up my calendar appointments for just about any increment, and just about any notification time. So, when I got the Alias 2, I was a bit surprised that it is much more limited in its calendar features than my Nokia was.

1. Some appointments that I have are only every other week, so I only want to be notified of them every other week. However, I can't find the recurrence of every other week. How do I do this.

2. On the day of the event, sometimes, I want the reminder to go off early in the morning, instead of at the event time. However, I'm having trouble setting it up that way. I also may...

Getting my phone to notify me when I have new Hotmail email

I have the Mobile Email application, and I have my Yahoo! and Hotmail email addresses registered on there. I have set it up to notify me on my phone when I have new email in either account, but it has only notified me occasionally, and not every time when I have new email. Could someone please guide me through the setup of this feature for Mobile Email so that my phone will notify me when I have new email in either of my accounts? I would deeply appreciate it. Thanks.

Question about the Calendar Feature

I am up for renewal in a couple days and I have narrowed my choices down to 2. All I need to make my decision is the answer to this question.

How does the calendar feature in the Alias 2 work? Let me explain...

I have the Alias now. When I use the calendar feature, the little calendar icon comes up onto my display screen no matter how far in the future my event is scheduled. Just the fact that there is something in my calendar makes the icon appear. I HATE THAT, therefore I do no use my calendar on this phone.

In my old phone, When I scheduled something in my calendar, the calendar icon would come up onto my display screen ONLY on the day the event is scheduled. That way, I had a visual reminder without having to set the audio remin...

Alias 2 vs. Glyde

So I went to Verizon to switch and buy the Alias 2, but since it was out of stock, they gave me the Glyde to use until the received the shipment of the Alias2. So, what was I wondering was if anyone had experience with both? If so, which would you say is better. I'm indifferent about the touch screen, and both are QWERTY, so I'd just like to know the experiences you may have had with either of them. Thanks.
Don't know about the Glyde but according to the reviews here it's getting trumped.

I have the Glyde, and I'm not all that impressed with it. Most of the time my screen is non responsive, etc. I'm actually considering upgrading to the Alias2 because of the issues with the Glyde.
I owned the Glyde and HATED it. The signal strength in my area is usually very good, but with the Glyde, it was mediocre at best. As soon as I switched phones, the reception was "good" again.

No zoom on camera?

Well, I really liie the phone, but I can't figure out how to use the zoom on the camera. I do have the zoom on the camcorder, but on the camera, the zoom icon has one of those red slashes thru the zoom icon. Can anyone tell me how to find the camera zoom?

TIA, Bill
You need to reduce the resolution by at least one step.

Then zoom works with right arrow key.

Good Luck

New Alias 2 does not fold all the way.

I just unwrapped my phone and I'm disappointed to find that when I fold the phone, it folds all the way in half but then springs back to about 1/4 inch open when at rest. Instead of folding with a reassuring click or snap to be completely together, there is this gap:

It's a little thing, but it's really annoying me. Anyone else get a phone like this? Do most of them close properly? If so, I might send mine back for a replacement.
my husband and i both have this phone and neither of them close like that. they close perfectly fine. they don't spring open like yours does. i would return/exchange for a phone that isn't defective. hope this helps!

Texting

Does anyone know if you can make t9 learn new words programmed in ABC mode? I am thinking about getting this phone but if you can't make it learn words or names I will have to look for something else, thanks
I thought that entering a word by abc mode was how you teach T9 new words. I don't see why this wouldn't work for you.

loose hinge?

just got my alias 2 and i noticed when the phone is shut if i push the top of the phone to the side while holding the bottom still that the top moved slightly to the side as if the hinge may be loose. i understand it could be a result of only having a hinge on one side of the phone. just curious if other people have noticed the same thing or if maybe something is loose on my phone? otherwise the phone is great. thanks
hello! my phone moves slightly as well. i think it is just due to the phone having a hinge on one side. i've had my phone for a few months now and haven't had any problems.

Mainly for Lefties??

I'm considering getting this phone and I wouldn't have any doubts about it at all if it weren't for 2 things....
1. I'm afraid of the size of the buttons...are they hard to use? Do you get used to having small buttons? Are the alias 2's buttons bigger then the 1st alias? Because I've tried out the 1st alias and the buttons were just usable....not easy tho.
2. This is the main problem/ question...is this phone harder for right handed people to use? When you flip it to the QWERTY keyboard, the control buttons (up, down, OK, etc.) are on the left hand side....do you ever get used to them or is it always annoying to control it with your left hand, right handed people?
I hate sounding picky, but I want to make sure that I love the phone that ...
