About time America got some love

I'm pretty sick of seeing all the new technology and cool phones come out in Asia and Europe like... a year before they reach the States if they even reach the States.

Finally North America's getting what it's owed. Thank you Steve Jobs.
wow, that will go nice w/ my macbook!!!!!

Cingular exclusive partnership for years to come

From the transcript:

"Our partner is going to be Cingular, Jobs says, adding that it's the best and most popular network in the country with 58 million subscribers. Cingular is going to be Apple's exclusive partner in the U.S. "

"He says it's a multiyear exclusive partnership, only available with Cingular wireless services."

Hopefully Apple will release a Cingular WCDMA version in time for Christmas.
Is there anything in that partnership that keeps Apple from releasing other iPhones? Ones that may not be Cing exclusives?

Cing prolly shelled out some $$$ for the exclusive (and/or promised tremendous advertising and store presence, preferential s...
from CNN:

Cingular, a unit of AT&T (up $0.17 to $33.98, Charts), will be Apple's sole U.S. partner. It's an exclusive multiyear agreement, which means no other carrier will be able to sell the iPhone through 2009.

PDA features like a palm device?

Will this iPhone have any PDA features like scheduling and whatnot? I know it has a calendar feature but how good is that?
this basically runs on a slimed down version of osx

I hope so, phones need to go in a new direction.
Is this not a 3G phone?!
Nope, EDGE only. But that doesn't surprise me. Once Cingular's got their 3G network more widespread, they'll make a killing off of the next iPhone.

Damn, I wish they'd gone CDMA. I would love for VZW to have picked this up.
This phone definitly looks groundbreaking to me. I have never seen anything like this. This phone would almost make grounds for me to switch from verizon to cingular, Laughing . anyways... I would assume it's 3G, considering its the most feature packed ...
It is not 3g. it has Edge, Bluetooth 2.0 and Wifi though. It is running a full version of os X. This is going to be a sweet phone. Check out Engadget.com for the live blog of the Apple Keynote.

It will come out on Cingular BTW.
Don't worry, they'll release a 2.0 with 3G which will force you to buy the new one. And then once you get the 3G model, then they'll release the 4G with WIMAX take even more of your hard earned money.
Yep, groundbreaking. Its a high end phone directed to people that don't want to shell out $300 on an iPod so I'm SURE that $600 on a phone will be right up their alley.

Oh, and no stylus, no keyboard, and no high speed data? Come on. Its a media p...
Might be the picture, but this thing looks huge.
i would think their going to have to release a cdma version sooner or later; too big a market to ignore. this definately looks pretty cool; everyone in going to want it except for the $$$tag. i know i do but i'm stuck in my vz contract for another yea...
Go rain on someone else's parade. You're obviously ticked off that Verizon isn't going to get the iPhone.

I'm happy that you love VZW. Enjoy your crappy UI and disabled functions.

This is a thread about the iPhone. It's not for "OMG! Doode! Ci...

This should be the next iPod

Hey peeps...Well i think this thing is pretty goddamn cool but i know what ive been waiting for a tochscreen PVP with Wifiand this is basically that so i say isteady of watching a vid on a 2.5 in screen iPod why not get rid of the phone features on this thing and keep the wifi, touch screen, and vid playback and give it a respectable hard drive and we got something here.
I know people would like to integrate thier pocket buddies but hey this would be a sick PVP and this coming from a 5-star iPod Hater....
Agreed, 100%! And I'm guessing this will happen sooner than later.

multi touch display

thanks for clearing that up for me. i had no idea what touch screen vs. multi touch was.

Limitation of touch-screen-only interface

I think it's really cool that the interface is touch-screen only, but there is at least one problem I can think of with this design: a lot of people use their cell phones without looking at them.

For instance, if my phone rings when it's in my pocket and I want to silence it, I can reach in and hit the button without having to take it out. I can lock, unlock, and do a lot of dialing without looking at it. This is particularly important if I use it in my car. Will this be a problem with the iphone?
That could be a good point. Just have to play with one and see if it matters.

I'll have to give you that one. No tactile response will probably be a minor issue. However im pretty sure i'll get over it Cool
Like the 8125, you just lock it probably.
