To be honest, the reception is bad. It didn't pass Cingular's standards even though the w810 did. However, it is coming to Dobson, so look out for this bad boy! IMHO, the w810, z710, and w810 are great phones anyways...

That's just bad business for Sprint to backstab Disney like that! So, they sign on an MVNO with a very unique market prop., and the company which sells airtime to them decides to do the same thing too? Now all Disney has is their brand, and some unique content... Shame on you, Sprint. Now that you have Nextel and all these MVNO's, you'd think you'd add on more and more subscribers. But...gasp..you add on less than any other carrier, ...

Alltell is a tier 2 carrier.... no where near large enough to take over the spot of a tier 1 carrier. Plus, how is alltel going to take over a tier 1 carrier because of a lack of 3g, while Alltel themselves have no 3g networks either.... curious. Watch for T-Mo to buy up some UMTS spectrum in the FCC auctions later on this year.

VZW Standard UI

in the Article: Verizon Launches First 3.2 Megapixel Camera Phone forum

When I talked to the Verizon customer service guy, he told me that they all have the same UI because it's more user friendly to all demographics, considering that you don't have to completely learn a new phone every time you upgrade. IMHO, this paired with the BT cripple just means Verizon is a bit too control happy.

Rich Brome, what about the Sony Ericsson K790?

Phonescoop was talking about the Sony Ericsson K790 at one time, which was going to have the Sony cybershot technology paired with a 3.2 megapixel camera as well. Do you know when this is coming out to entice the GSM'ers? Also, which has a better camera in your opinion? I have the Samsung a-940 and the 2 megapixel camera on it is extremely fuzzy and blurry... is this Verizon phone the same way?

UMTS by itself without the HSDPA upgrade is slower than EVDO from Verizon and Sprint. However, UMTS with the HSDPA is muuuuch faster than EVDO by itself. However, when EVDO rev. A rolls out it will be on par with the UMTS HSDPA upgrade.

Well, to answer your question, Sony Ericsson has an exclusive contract with Cingular. They also have some smaller companies like Cincinatti bell, and other regional partners...but /cingular does they lions share of their business.

Cingular has an exclusive contract with SE in the US. Although this isn't the case with T-mobile UK, you won't be seeing SE phones in t-mobile stores anytime soon.

   8O   Every time I look on here it seems there is a new EVDO revision that will roll out conveniently one year after the other one. Revision A rolls out in 2007, Revision B in 2008. Don't they realize that there are two year contracts? I suppose it's another way for the phone manufacturers to try to increase their market percentage. If Verizon is smart they'll look past revision ...

I think this is a great idea! I used to work in a mall kiosk, and part of the reason why the Cricket is so popular, is because parents want to make sure that their kids won't put them into bankruptcy. Go Disney! I think that this should go a long way! :D

In my opinion, Cingular needs to worry about adding UMTS to more markets, than uploading their HSDPA upgrades. Yeah, it's great that HTC has a UMTS ready 8125, but Cingular (AT&T) need to get their act together and offer UMTS to more markets first. After all, a UMTS phones does you no good if you live in a GPRS only area.

Unfortunately for you, yes. Sony Ericsson has contracts with Cingular only for tier 1 cariers.

Exactly! That's why it's always better to wait for the actual production version, because it makes no sense to spend all that money on a potentially buggy phone!

Unfortunately T-Mobile is absolutely out of the question. Sony Ericsson America has an exclusive contract with only one tier 1 carrier: Cingular. Thus, if you want this phone you have to be with Cingular....no if's ands or buts.

No way. It either has to be a w800, or a preproduction version of the w810 that is sent to developers all over to try and fix the bugs that are on it before they get produced. At this stage, there will be no w810 that aren't preproduction versions, which will most likely be riddled with bugs and problems. I'd err on the cautious side if you want to buy one of these phones, because I'm positive they'd be ...
