The review also incorrectly states that you can't add MP3's and JPEG's from your computer to the phone. I do this all the time via the included USB cable.

That's good to hear. I'm looking forward to getting to the windy city!

Yikes--that's definitely not something I've experienced w/ Sprint. I suppose I could deal with that if I was careful, though.

Hmmm, thanks. What networks does Sprint roam on? Is that just for analog roaming outside metropolitan areas? Or could a Sprint phone also roam on, say, Verizon when the Sprint signal was weak? I certainly don't want dropped calls, but that hasn't been much of a problem for my Cingular-using friends in other areas. Is Cingular more likely to drop calls in Chicago?

Your post caught my eye because I'm moving to Chicago in May for a new job. I'm currently with Sprint, but was trying to decide whether to renew my contract or switch to Cingular. Do you happen to know anything about Cingular service in Chicago as compared with Sprint? I'll be working in the Loop. I don't yet have an apartment, but it probably will be north or west of downtown. I'm interested in voice quality and the fewest dropped ...

Unfortunately, Verizon's RAZR is only metallic *colored*, since the phone is made of plastic.

Thanks, Darth. I don't intend to abuse anything; I just wanted to make sure that this particular phone solves my problems. My only concern was that merely trying it would subject me to a contract renewal that I wouldn't want if the phone didn't do it for me.

Thanks Alluvin. Guess I'm off to the Sprint store!

Current customer: Can I try new phone w/o extending contract?
Jan 4, 2006, 2:45 PM
in the Sprint forum

I'm a long-time Sprint customer; my current contract is just ending. For some time now, I've been increasingly dissatisfied with my Sprint service. I'm wondering, however, if some of that may be due to my phone--a Samsung VGA 1000 that's had a number of glitches. (The most common phone problem is that the phone constantly switches back and forth between a full Sprint signal and analog roaming mode, even if I'm in a strong-signal area and not moving. No ...

If you paid full price for your replacement phone, then it sounds like you are exactly right--Sprint should not have restarted the two-year timer. Given that you've also been having problems with your signal, it might be silly to stay with Sprint. If I were you, I'd find an alternative that you would be happy with. If you want to take the alternative, then go ahead and take it. If, on the other hand, you still want to stay with ...

Interested to see this post. I just saw the A900 for the first time this evening and nearly bought it on the spot. The phone looks and feels amazing. But I'm also plan to use speakerphone mode quite a bit, so maybe I should consider a Cingular RAZR instead. Sigh.

Since this forum is for a particular GSM phone, you'll have better luck asking about two CDMA phones elsewhere.

I think he was saying he wanted a memory card slot, though, which the V3C doesn't have. Also, that model is plastic, not metal like the other RAZR's, and it doesn't have iTunes. And it has Verizon's interface, not Motorola's. Some fairly big differences, in my view.

What are the advantages to this phone over the RAZR? Also, I like the appearance, but worry that it's maybe not masculine. Thoughts?

.8" is not that thick, but it's definitely thicker than the RAZR. I think it looks beautiful, so that's the big draw for me. I'm waiting to see what others say about the features/reception, though.

Funny you should mention that. Other than being able to talk on the phone, the alarm is the most important feature for me. I use my phone alarm to wake up every morning and specifically look for phones that have alarms that can be set quickly. Samsung and Nokia are very good in that respect. I *hate* having to enter text to set an alarm, as many Motorolas require.

True, but even the iPod screen is much larger than a phone screen. That said, if you enjoy it, then you should go for it.

Okay, that fits my experience with Sprint in other places, so thanks again. I'll definitely check out T-Mobile. BTW, I can't wait to move to Chicago. What a great city!

Thanks for the advice. Should I not consider Sprint? In other places, I've found that I can't always get a Sprint signal, but when I do, it's quite clear.

Wow, that really shoots down my Cingular plan! Thanks for your quick response, though. I'll probably be travelling about once a month on average. I'd go with T-Mobile (as I like their rates and phones and my girlfriend likes them for their magenta RAZR), but at least some of my travel may be to small towns and I'm not sure how T-Mobile does outside of Chi, NY, and a few other large cities.

Hmmmm, I'm moving to Chicago in a few months and wanted to go ahead and get new phone service. I had been thinking about one of the Cingular free RAZR deals, but this has me worried. How's T-Mobile there? Sprint?
