Smooth Styling

Oct 3, 2005 by VZWagent

If you still use a phone for mostly phone calls, then the build of this phone is not for you, the most awkward feeling against your face, the outer display is TOO small! Great camera, nice inner screen, but when it comes down to it I could not carry this phone around, and there is no way it could replace my 815,

LOVING MY V!!!

Oct 16, 2006 by Si3G3

This is my favorite phone out of the ones I have used. It basically has everything needed in a phone plus some.

|LOVE|
The external display because it is like having 2 phones in one.
The music player is great.
Camera is cool.
Video recording works pretty good.
The keyboard has made texting so easy!

!CONS!
Camera isn't perfect but its still good.
I wish the video capture was longer.

So other than that it is a great phone. Good buy for a verizon customer. I do have a few phones but this one is my favorite.

Removable Memory.
Custom MP3 Ringtones (search Google)
Bluetooth Headset (though it doesn't matter to me)
QWERTY keyboard
Great Signal.
EV-DO (don't have EV-DO in my area, nice to have on the phone though)

Cons.

Small outer dialing and navigation keys
Small outer screen, nice though
Can't put MP3 ringtones on without searching google.

Awesome Phone!!!

This phone is so awesome. It has everything you can think of and it is in only one thing. You don't have to buy three thousand stuff. So what I am saying is GET THIS PHONE. Well I recommend it. I don't know about you. But I sure love this phone. And it is not you work phone. It is your everyday kind of phone. Which is so awesome. So you construction people out there. Don't get this phone. Go get a Nextel. This if you drop it many times you will have to buy a new one. Well that is all I have to say about this phone.

hmmm maybe

Just got the phone after having an old Siemens s64 for 6 yrs. First time using a color display. They really don't work well in sunlight. The old grey and black LCD was much better. I have yet to find a way for it to alert me on a missed call without having to press a button.
Also when using the speaker phone people tend to say I am always breaking up.

Pros
Nice keyboard
Raised buttons

Cons
Difficult to see display in sunlight
feels weird next to face
Bit heavy
Finger seems to always go into lens
No software to interface with contacts or calendar

Good phone but......

I just got this phone the other day and am taking it back to Verizon tomorrow. I guess you could call me a power user because I work in the industry, and live on this stuff! I currently have a Samsung I-700 which I didn't realize how much it was part of me, until I got the 9800. Pros: Compact package, excellent call quality (had it in speaker mode during a conversation on the dash in my diesel pickup and the other end could not hear background noise.) bitchin design! I love the quality of the voice recognition software and the part that announces who is calling, so you don't have to pickup the phone. The screens are of superb quality, I like the keyboard, it was pretty easy for my big meathooks to type quickly on it. BT with a Motorola 850 wasn't bad (didn't care for the earpiece that much). Camera quality seemed to be pretty decent for a phone.

Cons: Verizon tried to move my phonebook over from my 700 and it would get about 34 done and then fail. Tried deleting a few suspected hang ups and still couldn't make it happen.
Cannot sync to a PC to keep contacts current (big drawback for me). The phone book in the 9800 has a big issue with international numbers. It doesn't like them all that much. It also took what contacts that did transfer from my 700 and swapped the names around, so in order to voice dial a contact you have to do it last name first. I found it somewhat difficult to navigate in the menus.

When you want voice dial, it does not kick into speaker mode so you either have to have it to your ear, or use a BT headset.
Lack of a good case from LG to protect the phone.

Uses a mini-SD card, which I already have enough wrapped up in SD stuff so I wasn't really thrilled about buying new cards and a new pcmcia reader to work with my laptop.
No infrared either? Spose I could get BT adapter for my laptop, but then it just one more thing to drag around with me.

Overall, most users will find this to be a very good phone. Me, I am getting a 730.

lg 9800

average phone with below average reception. went thru 2 with web software problems,1st couldnt do *228 and barely had enough rection to make calls. 2nd was even worse on reception. have two other phones that would have 4 bars to the lg 9800 1 or none. other phones are lg 8100,lg 8000 and moto e815 and v710. phones overall functions are great but has a few softeware glitches, including volume up and down glitch, and both 9800 had it. may try phone again in a few months with software updates.

total disappointment

Feb 3, 2006 by mfawn76

The bottom line is that this phone has not worked for me at all! I am going on my 3rd brand new phone in two months. The first one (lasted about a month and a half) froze up on me while I was taking pictures. I tried to restart it and was never able to get the dumb thing back on (which obviously meant i lost everything on it). The 2nd one (brand new) lasted me two weeks before it started powering off 2 to 5 minutes into my phone calls. It would then take me to up to 15 minutes to get the phone to even power back on. I am currently waiting on my 3rd and final phone from Verizon and this will be my LAST try for this model, then I'm going with something else. I have also been very disappointed in Verizon and the hoops that they've made me jump through with this phone. The whole process has been extremely disappointing and VERY time consuming!
